In your experience, do private campgrounds cost more than state parks? If so, how much more?

Special thanks to all of you who have helped answer my questions. I really appreciate it!

It all depends. In Georgia,State Parks run about $28 a night. You can find some private parks cheaper and some more expensive. If you can use Passport America then the private parks are cheaper. However we like state parks better because we like being more spread out, not a big fan of permanent residents, and like to hike.

Usually, but there are exceptions. The amount is totally dependent on location

Most state parks we have stayed at didnt offer full hookups but water and electric only with dump stations. They were usually less expensive for that reason.

We have stayed at State parks that were less than $20.00/night. Some private may be $32-35/night. Depends on where you want to stay and what conveniences you want.

From what we hear and see, North Georgia has some awesome parks as does WVa.

Did you hear what the masochist said to the sadist? He said, "Hit me". The sadist said, "No".

Ditto. IMHO no, the smaller CG's are usually more reasonably priced. Most if not all state parks have no sewer hookups. I consider it a push as far as rates go. CG's rates a little higher but you do have the sewer hookups. Passport America has restrictions regarding what days qualify for discounts. I've never had any good luck using them. The days were not right for me or they would jack up the posted rate coming up with all kinds of reasons and THEN give the discount.

Where do you come up with these questions???
No, all State campgrounds costs lots more than private.
Always use private campgrounds or Walmarts.

the last I checked in Texas, the state campground was cheaper, until you added the $6 per day per person access fee on. of course a resident could get an annual permit and it would be cheaper.

There is no uniformity in private RV parks since they're privately owned and the owner can do whatever he wants in the way of rates, space, rules etc. You would need to assess each individual park in which you have an interest and compare it to each individual states state park rates. No uniformity there either.

I've found that if you are a resident, state park rates are low, around $13.00 here in Colorado. However if you are and out of stater there is but very little difference and many don't have FHU's.

Your taxes are paying for part of the site cost at state parks. The difference is that even if a citizen does not ever stay at a state campground, they are paying for part of your site cost when you stay there. If government were run like a business, where when you use a service, you pay for that service, I think state campgrounds in a given area would be about the same as private.

Our RV is our home for nealy eight years.
I think I finally qualify as a full-timer.
