I drove through the park this weekend, so I probably saw your rig. I heard it was now a KOA and wanted to see if they made any changes. Nothing too noticeable that I saw. Weather was fabulous this weekend, wasn't it?

Nice to see another Lance TT on the road! The pic in my sig was from our second shakedown (first with hookups) at the Santa Paula KOA. It is a very nice place, we went for the Memorial Day weekend. They do have many activities, and they are developing the CG by adding a pool and bringing in some kabins. So they are making an effort.

My only issue is the cost - Steckel Park is only $36 and if you dont want the extras that KOA has, is a nice alternative (and easier to re-enter the 150 to see oncoming traffic!)

I digress - Lance did a swell job, my only "major" minor issue was the seal on the slideout wasnt tall enough on the bottom. A couple minor woodworking issues with the bed latch, but thats about it.

Everybody guessed right - it is the KOA in Santa Paula next to Steckel Park. (Used to be Far West Resort) They are working on the office area and adding cabins. The weather was perfect this weekend. It is 'interesting' re-entering the 150.

We only paid $39 a night, and it was nice to get a reservation at the last minute. Ventura Beach RV wanted $66 a night, and after some recent reviews I have no interest in going there.

Glad to see there are other Lance trailers out there, and other Commanders towing!

Lovely looking trailer. Glad the shakedown trip went well. We have been very lucky to not have problems when RV'ing. The KOA looks like a nice place. I loved taking my kids to KOA's when we tent camped. There was so much for them to do.

It's great that you had a wonderful first time experience. We have many like this too. But every once in a while, it may be different for you.

But I caution you. This trip you drove 15 miles to the campground. Sounds like the weather was good. And your first campground was a good one too. As were the neighbors.

Come back and report again after you have traveled a few thousand miles, bought some fuel in a crowded station, traveled a few different major highways, maybe 10 different campgrounds, a few holiday weeks like 4th of July, set up at night, and maybe experience a few rainy days, and nights. Hopefully, you'll have uneventful wonderful trips like your first.

But just don't be surprised if you find it to be a bit more challenging, as you get further from home. You'll have many stories to tell. Both good and bad. But even the bad ones, you'll be able to laugh about them someday. The really good news is that on your first trip, your new trailer works as it should. So your already ahead of the curve. That takes one big variable out of the equation.

Haha, our second trip out had a car pass us illegally on the right and into a deer.
They locked it up, stopped in the lane, and we then had to lock it up and go around them. Fun, fun...

Well heck $39 is a good deal! I havent stayed at Ventura Beach yet. It will be a while until we do.

Here's some local spots we found fun...

Faria Beach (Rincon Parkway): 127 spots. 1st come first serve, $27/day, no hookups at all but you get to be parallel to the ocean! Nice sandy beachfront. If you go out around 7 or 8am theres likely to be a spot available any day of the week (except 4th of July)

Theres a CG called Faria Beach (and Hobson is same type) and only has about 20 spots, has full hookups, but is FULL all the time and looks hard to tow into, so a MH or DP might be better off.

Thornehill Broome (Pt Mugu): 90 spots. Reserve America required after May. ~$33. Primitive Campground. Has a nice beachfront picnic area, but at the waves its really rocky and bound to get hurt!

Steckel Park Santa Paula: 20 or so spots. $36. 1st come 1st serve, but my DW called ahead and got info on availablity before we went up there. Nice concrete pads with full hookups.

KOA Santa Paula: You know all about that one
