1997 Fleetwood Southwind - F53 chassis with 460 engine.
Returning from vacation in TN heading to central Florida on I75 near Macon and the Motorhome spit, sputtered, and stopped. Coasted to the side of the road and tried to start, it would run for a few seconds then quit. Called Coachnet and waited for tow. While waiting kept trying to start got it to run for about 30 seconds once after about 2 hours of waiting. The tow truck showed up after 2 1/2 hours, can not remember name of tow company but the driver was very nice and helpful and towed us to Ford dealership. We left for a couple hours and got a fuel pump and tools to change, when we returned to motorhome I thought I would start it up and let it run till it dies to use up some fuel. Well it ran for 45 minutes without any problems so I thought lets hook up the toad and see what happens. Well we made it home without any more problems. The motorhome was running a little cooler since it was after dark.

Sounds Like the classic fuel pump problem to me!.......I went on 2 more camping trips after mine failed.....I just kept the tank full and drove only about 100 miles before filling up again........
Replace it with a factory fuel pump and you wont have that problem again....

I can see a full tank would require less "lift". I guess adding 15+ gallons who help lower the temperature of the gas a little cooler?

When it quit on me I had almost a full tank of fuel. When I started again after it quit I ran the tank down to almost empty and then just put 20 more gallons in it to get me home, I figure if I have to change the pump less gas will make in a little easier.
