We have a 2003 Fleetwood Southwind and the lock pins on our basement door compartment have broken off. Now the door does not latch at all. The pins are on each side of the door. And some of the other doors, one side has broken. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy the parts to replace the pins. Any help would be appreciated.

I had an 05 Diesel Bounder that the pins were breaking on as well. I got a square steel bar at the hardware store and made new pins out of that. I had to drill out a few pop rivets to disassemble the latch, but after doing 3 or 4 I could make one in a camp ground in about an hour. Another half hour to remove and install, and I never had one of the new ones break.

I'm not sure of what kind of latches that you have but I have the Southco latches on mine. The mechanism is made out of cast Al and had 2 crack and eventually break. I replaced them with a steel Allen wrench that I formed to fit in the latch. It works good.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping to find something ready made just to replace. I guess I'll have to try myself. I think the ones I have are plactic, maybe I'm wrong.

We had a 2001 Bounder and had trouble with the compartment latches all the time. The pins themselves are metal but are mounted in a plastic bushing that kept slipping out and then the pins started to be too loose and would not stay in place. I could not find new bushings anywhere and ended up ordering from Fleetwood. The problem was that they would not sell just bushings but had to buy a whole latch assembly. Were delivered in 4 days.

Hi, just went through 3 latch replacements. So I consider myself a expert. Camping world sells them, about 10 dollars. And you can get them on line, I forgot the web site, but they are called compartment door or cargo door latches. The package says winne or monaco but they will fit a southwind. They are tricky to replace though. They are held on with a screw and a nut. So you have to take the side of the door off to remove the old ones. After you take the four screws at the top and bottom of the door out remove the inside cover and disconnect the small attach rod. It is easy to bend and if you get it out of alignment it won't work. The door side is glued to the cover so you have to use a putty knife to kinda pry it loose, just drive the putty knife under it till it comes loose. You will have to drill new holes for the latch, and widen the slot where the latch comes through just a bit, a small file works great. line it up and reinstall the nuts and screws. If this is too confusing, PM me at kingcharles@sbcglobal.net charlie in texas
