All Ontario Parks have a number of sites that are non reservable eg 15% of sites are first come first serve. If you stop by mid afternoon, you should not have any problems. As others have indicated the Northern Parks have many sites unoccupied. Also, Pukaskwa National Park as indicated do not take reservations.

Come up and enjoy the Canadian North, it is great. In the north this season, we have been to Pancake Bay, Pukaskwa, Neys, Nagagamisis, Rene Brunelle, Windy Lake - lots of room week days and weekends.

Last week there were a lot of vacancies @ Halfway lake as well. Both electric & non-electric.

Back to the topic @ hand I tented @ the KOAs in St. Ignace MI & Cloquet MN (just south of Duluth) back in '92. I know it's a long time ago, but I had no complaints (at the time for either cg).

We've been to the following:

Aune-Osborn County Park, Sault Ste Marie MI: CG itself is an open field but the new bathhouse is very nice and the view can't be beat; freighters go right by the CG.
St Ignace KOA: sites in the back typically tight but most shady; pleasant place
McLain SP, Houghton MI: great view, most sites will be "interesting" to get into with a large trailer; popular place on weekends; bathhouse located at one end of long narrow CG; you'll need all your extension cords to plug in
Tahquamenon Falls SP: didn't feel this was cheek-to-jowl at all, but we may have been in the other CG(we were in Overlook CG); nice & shady in most sites
Wandering Wheels CG, Munising MI: very shady, may be tight for large RVs (we had a PUP at the time), older but nice CG, clean facilities

Once you get out of southern Ontario, as indicated you shouldn't have any difficulties getting a site in the provincial parks in the north. We always stop at Chutes PP in Massey as our first stop from home, from Sarnia it may be a bit of a run for you. There is a KOA south of Barrie, we haven't stopped there but it may be a good first stop for you on the way north.

The provincial parks at Lake Superior are awesome.
We just got back from a trip to Sault Ste Marie last week.
From Winnipeg back to Prince George we took the Yellowhead Highway.

Say Hi for us too, Bill and Joan are great folks and good friends who will glady show you his Volvo 770 Toter with the Smart car on the back he uses to haul their 38' Mobile Suites.

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

Hone Eagle - we have stayed at the Sault KOA before. It is a great complex as KOA's go. We will definitely pass on the greeting.
