We are selling our '98 Rexhall 32' Airbus motorhome, gas chev motor on P32 Chassis due to its tendency to wander across the road despite new tires, heavier sway bar, air bags on rear axle, new wheel bearings replaced and other attempts at obtaining a stable handling driving experience. This coach is unable to maintain a straight line course with out constat steering corrections, and is downright dangerous in a cross wind! We're giving up on it!

So, could anyone comment on the driving-handling characteristics of diesel pusher coaches on either Spartan or Freightliner chassis?

We're considering a 37' National Tradewinds, with 300 hp Cummins on Spartan chasis, or 38' Alfa with 350 hp CAT on Freightliner chassis.

Will either of these types of chassis give us stable steering and handling?

Thanks in Advance for any comments, suggestions, or resources that you might steer us toward.

I own a 41 foot coach on a Spartan chassis. It rides/handles super! The same coach on a Freightliner has less book value. I have never owned a coach built on a Freightliner chassis. From what I have read the Spartan (not my opinion!) is the preferred chassis. Both are WAY better riding/handeling than any Chevy "P" Workhorse "W" or Ford "F" chassis. I hope this helps, Bill

Both chassis will work well. I would not consider the Alfa due to the coach, not the chassis.

Our coach is on the freightliner chassis, they have been very helpful with any isues we have had. We are satisified with it.

Both are good chassis manufacturers. They make several different models depending on application. Look at each on separately.

A couple of years ago, you had to get the Spartan to get IFS and a side radiator...For me these were important items when we purchased - very important. Sometime in the last 2-3 years FL went to offering IFS...although I believe not on all models. If the FL chassis was side radiator and had IFS I would give it a shot...but a Cummins engine would also be important to me.

I would pass on the Alfa.

Either the FL or Spartan will be so much improved over what you are used to --- you will be grinning and happy with either chassis. But - I would definitely pass on the Alfa...and not because of the chassis.

When we were shopping I drove the Allegro Bus in the Tiffin, Freightliner and Spartan chassis. The Freightliner was stiffer, had less corner dive in hard lane changes at high and low speed, and less dive on hard braking. Based on these characteristics I picked the Freightliner. Others choose a softer ride over handling and might pick differently. Drive both if you can and then decide.

Either Chassis is good. I won't comment on the Coach Builders.
