After dropping the 5er on my truck a week ago (new tailgate now), I blew out the back window today.

We pulled into a roadside picknick area today, only to find the large turnaround plugged by cars parked there (illegally I might add) by hikers. I should have known better. I tried to back out of the parking lot onto a busy highway, and being careless and in a hurry as there was a break in traffic, I backed until the 5er contacted the truck and BOOM! No more back window.

Luckily, I didn't damage the truck body or the RV, and the tint film (and some duct tape) are holding the shattered glass in place as I have 500 miles to drive home tomorrow. Hope it holds. New window goes in on Monday - $400. That should be the trifecta. Tailgate, hail damage, and now the window. What a cruddy couple of weeks.

I have decided that I should get better insurance, or give up RVing. What an idiot I am!

Ouch, I feel for your frustration. I bent a tailgate and good (didn't replace it, just took it off), and dropped the trailer twice - once without much effect, and once bending the rail of the truck bed pretty good. (once again, left as it was, no repair)

I'm confident that if I had a configuration where I could damage things by merely turning to sharply, I'd have done that too. I know I have certainly ranged through a full 180 degrees in maneuvering the trailer around.

Was it the right or left front corner that touched the window?

Either get your rig "excorcised" by the local holy man, or get a PullRite SuperGlide!

Get a Blue Ox bed saver. It is the best insurance against dropping your rig.

What luck, IIRC a gravel hauler unloading in front of you, hail, a dropped 5er, now a back window. Sure glad you don't have a PSD 6.0 for the final 500 miles.
Just kidding guys as I know IB is a true Dodge guy.

This is probably a stupid question and I am new to a 5er, but how are the rigs getting dropped on trucks? I don't want to make the same mistakes. I'm so nervous about it now that I am triple and quadrouple checking things already.

DH blew out the rear window of our truck just last week. New rule - No backing unless someone watching. I also would like more information about dropping the rig on the truck...

Pulling the hitch release lever before the landing gear is down. Easy enough mistake to make but can be dangerous to arms as well as truck/trailer.

The first time I dropped my trailer, it was because the previous owner incorrectly trained me on how to operate the hitch, and did not realize it was not latched.

The second time I dropped it it was because it was only half latched because I was at an angle, and couldn't get it to latch, so I was trying to edge forward to even things out and just pulled too hard.
