Florida and the south should not be as cold this coming winter. There is no evidence of el nino forming at this time. But there is no evidence of a la nina which could help warming.
Last winter was the worst in Florida since 1978 and doesn't look like it will repeat. Those who want to stay up north because winter wasn't so bad last year will find this coming winter in the north to be worse than last year.

Actually, we are already into an unofficial La Nina event.http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=1543&tstamp=. And this is the prediction from NOAA and NWS http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisory/ensodisc.pdf.
Unfortunately for us in New Mexico we get less snow in the winter during La Nina.

thank you for the update from Weather underground. The La Nina evidence is only slight at this time. What is concerning is the severity of winter in S. America this year. If this is true then winter in N. America will be more typical of winters of the past and be more severe. The tropical storms should increase in numbers but the freezing temps of last winter should not repeat.
