I completed my temp feed to my TT today, although after it was all tested, it didn't perform as I would have expected.
Wired as follows:
One leg from my hot tub service, tied to neutral bus & ground.
8/2 to new outdoor service box with TTR-30 receptacle.
If looking at receptacle with ground on top, I wired the hot to the left side, neutral to the right side (as shown in the box instructions)
Total lenth of all runs is:
25' of 10/2 from TT cable
40' 8/2 to hot tub panel
65-70' 8/3 to main service panel 50' breaker. (only using one leg - hot tub is off & drained for summer)

I tested the new TTR-30 and read 125V hot to neutral and hot to ground as it should. I powered up the TT and turned on the AC unit, which to my dismay seemed to cycle the compressor as if trying to load it up every 2 mins or so. It would blow cold, then hot....repeat.
All connections are tight, all AC wires are in place.
I don't have an amp meter, but I will get one from work tomorrow and read the draw on the cable.

Any idea why this won't run properly?
Thanks!

What was your voltage at the TT during startup?Did you figure out your voltage loss per length and size of conductor?

135 foot total run may be too much for wire gauge????IMHO Think about the old water hose theory if you want to get anything out of the hose at the end go bigger!!

I'm going to put a volt meter in one of the TT outlets and do another test run and see how low the voltage is dropping....I also think this may be the culprit...although after all the work, I'm not excited about the outcome.
I'll report back after the test.

Voltage drops to 104-105 every time the compressor tries to load up.........obviously this doesn't appear to be enough to get it done...correct?

You got it.Think capacitor for the AC.

No. That may help the compresor if it's starting hard, but it won't fix the low voltage problem and that's what's happening. The OP's description of how everything is wired is thouroghly confusing, but it looks like he's getting an excessive voltage drop.

Wire for AC is sized according to load and length of run, not voltage drop as in figuring DC wiring.

I tried another circuit, closer to the TT that comes from my garage 100amp service (this is a sub service off my 200a main that feeds the smaller loads in the house) Needless to say, it didn't come out much better...voltage dropped to 107, not enough to keep the compressor loaded up.
As a comparison, if I plug the TT directly into my 15a garage circuit and try the AC, the volts drop to 88, and the 15a breaker will eventually trip out on the 100a panel.
My guess is that I'm just too far from the main 200a panel, which is on the opporsite side of my driveway roughly 100' away. The only real solution is to run some serious gauge wire on dedicated circuit....not exactly a cheap option, so I think I'm out of luck.
