Greetings. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2002 5211 BT Cruiser with less 4000 miles. The owners only used the RV on very short in town trips for their business. The vehicle was driven atleast once a week, but only for a short trip. The asking price is 18000. The inside and outside are like new. Should I be worried about the age and super low mileage? Thanks!

For the age it seems high but for the mileage it seems fair, so it's a toss up.

I bought a 2005 Jeep Rubicon in 2005 and I just sold it for 22K because it only has 10K miles on it.

I understand I sold it for a premium, but the guy that bought it got a great vehicle so there's a lot to be said about paying a premium.

You would have to get tires and complete fluid changes, tranny, rear dif, oil, brake fluids etc. just to feel good about it. If you can get it for 15K you'd be doing OK as that discount will help pay to get it road worthy.

400 ten mile trips for a motorhome sounds strange.

No, not necessarily.

However, read this shopping experience:

When I was shopping for my present coach, a diesel, I ran across a guy that was selling a 1-year old unit. Only 6,000 +/- miles on it. Sounded good to me. He explained that he only took one trip in it. A 6 month trip. Boy, it started sounding real good, right? Read on..... He drove it from Oklahoma to, and I quote; "every Communist country in South America, on a Christian mission trip." He explained further that it had a diesel engine, so they could make all the backroads with it's torque in South America, without running out of fuel, because diesel is more prevelant in third world countries. Can you imagine buying a diesel coach that had been pounded driving through a third-world continent?! Besides all this - he explained that he and his travelling partner were extremely obese - and they had ceiling fans built-in the rig wherever there was any ceiling space! Can you imagine this? A Class C run through every dirt road in South America, and 10 ceiling fans in a Class C?! You can't make up a story like this. That took the cake to me. Needless to say - I got off the phone as soon as possible. No, I did not buy the rig from this guy! See, feel, touch, drive, smell and crawl under any rig you buy. The moron I bought my then one year old rig from, cut the muffler off, so that it would go faster! He didn't disclose this until I got there 1,500 miles away to buy it. I told him I was disappointed in him not disclosing this oddity. Buyer beware is my best advice! Expect surprises!

Our dealer just sold a 2004 "A" on consignment for the original owner who bought it new from them only had 2700 miles on it..They just never used it. So it's not unusual.

What do you find normal about a MH that has been driven weekly for 8 years only have 4000 miles on it?

Before committing, take a test drive on the 4-lane amongst fast passing trucks. It's just _possible_ that it drove so poorly that it frightened the owners. Check the tire pressures first.

Did not say normal, said not unusual. The weekly trip could have been just to run it. He didn't say to camp in, he just said driven.

I bought my 2002 in November with 5000 miles on it from the original owner. It had a few issues from sitting. The generator carb was gimmed up (30 hours on the meter). I had to pull the furnace burner to remove a large mud daubers nest. The electric element in the water heater was burned out (somebody forgot to turn it off) and the tires were badly dry rotted. Overall I am very happy with it. Just don't be surprised if you find similar issues. Sounds like a decent price, but don't rule out some negotiating.
