I'm hoping there's a guru who's been down this road before. Using instructions posted by one our members I removed the old Fedders air conditioner and installed a new Sharp unit. The new unit is installed, secured and trimmed with solid oak pieces stained to match the rest of the rig. But...

I removed the upper set of louvers to access the rear of the A/C unit. These louvers are aluminum and they're very fragile. They're installed into the fiberglass roof using a black rubber grommet/gasket that has opposing slits in it - One slit for the fiberglass and one slit for the louvers. I've tried putting the gasket on the louvers first and I've tried putting the gasket on the fiberglass roof first. This thing is beating me!

Has anyone reinstalled these louvers and has some miracle method for doing it? If someone lives in southern Riverside County in California and needs something to do - We've got cold adult beverages on tap!

Argh. Grumble.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Do you think if you placed a phone call to Roadtrek they could help you?

Or maybe a phone call to the service department of a dealer who specializes in Class B's? Van City in St. Louis comes to mind.
Stahmann's in Texas.

Just some thoughts.....

I _very_ vaguely recall seeing a gasketed windshield installed several decades ago. Since I didn't do itmyself, this may be 'way off... but what I think I recall:

Seat the gasket on the windshield. Put it inside the car. Wrap a length of mason's twine (very heavy string) around it, in the outer gasket groove, leaving the ends hanging out to the front (outside) at the top center. Hold the windshield tightly against the inside of the opening. From the outside, grasp both ends, and pull the string straight out, letting it follow the windshield contours around to both sides. The outer lip of the outer channel _should_ be pulled open and thru progressing in both directions, and seat itself properly in the opening as you go around.

Hopefully someone can confirm or correct what I've written. Knowing how much stuff is on the internet, someone probably has the glass procedure written up with photos somewhere.

I'd put the gasket on the grill, put string in the groove where the fiberglass is supposed to go (maybe with a few dabs of vasoline?), put a few zip-ties on the grill slats for temporary 'handles', feed the grill into the hole, align it, pull it tight against the hole's edge, and pull both ends of the string. But I'm glad my '00 D190V RT never put me thru this....
