Is it possible to fill the horizontal type RV tanks from the small barbecue type tanks.
Is there some type of fitting you could buy to couple the two tanks together and the gas would run from the full barbecue tank to the larger empty RV tank .
We have lots of access to barbecue tanks but almost no filling sites for RV propane tanks here, the barbecue tanks are too tall to fit in the propane compartment on the camper.

Instead of trying to fill the RV tank, how about just plumbing a line to run from the BBQ tank to the rig system. An Extend-A-Stay or the equivalent is not at all hard to install, and the BBQ tanks can be filled in town any number of times. There are a few issues regarding flow limiters in spuds and in some tank valves but they are easily handled.

you could use old POL fittings(no check valve) and an HP lpg rated rubber hose, or soft copper tube to join the tanks. the full tank needs to be held upside down to move liquid into the emptier tank. without leaks no danger. the problem would be waste once the pressure equalized between the tanks flow would stop. now you got two half full tanks. Since you cant/wont carry a second tank extend a flow will not be much help. good luck
