Seems like the better rule would be, we do not allow trashy unmaintained rigs. Just like a restaurant where you have to be dressed appropriately. As a matter of principle, I did not reserve there. The 10 year rule is wrong in my opinion. It could be used as a "guide". That did not appear to be the case at this particular resort.

I'm thinking, perhaps if I go and they see my unit, they will reconsider. But I don't think so. They were very specific. So, I got to thinking, if I go there and really like it, I can't go next summer because my unit is too old.

Time to stop thinking and start doing. Expect respect and you will get.

I respectfully disagree, there are people out there who don't know the meaning of respect and unfortunately many work for places like the DMV etc... expecting it is one thing, getting it is another.

Love your website by the way.

Agreed, the CG I was at last weekend had a 3 to 4 year old Discovery, you know that thing cost a pretty penny. I highly doubt it was ever cleaned and it looked 20 years old, cracked rear bumper, ripped awning with duct tape holding it together. It was disgusting, I have seen some 30 year old RV's so well taken care of I'd be proud to own them let alone park next to them, yet because of their age alone they won't be allowed in some RV parks, while they can make their own rules it's simply UN-American.

My brother just bought a 1990 Coachman Classic, he paid cash for it and frankly it isn't the prettiest RV right now. I am going to help him get this beast cleaned up and when we're done it's going to look great, the inside is near mint already but who see's that. All he cares about is now he can go camping and his wife will be comfortable.

I also made reservations at Gulf Waters, which is an "owner owned" resort, meaning they have a P.O.A. that set the rules for rentals. We've stayed there for Christmas the past two or three years in our 1998 Country Coach and they never questioned it. This year when I called to reserve for December, they asked if I would send pictures of the coach. I wasn't real happy about that, especially since we had been a good customer, but I did send some email pics.

They immediately emailed my reservation confirmation.

I suppose this is done to keep some p.o.s. out of the park, which isn't exclusive to motor homes. They have trailers and fifth wheels, but they are in a seperate section, and are generally late model, well kept rigs.

The resort is first class and they are making attempts to keep it that way, plus the management is abiding by the wishes of those who have purchased rv lots in the resort. Bottom line, there are many other less exclusive parks, private and public along Mustang Island and Aransas Pass, so you have to decide what best suites you.

so if im in illinois, and i have a unit over ten yrs old, and i want to stay in that park in port aransas tx, he will take my reservation and deposit, but he wants me to come by and have it inspected before he will let me stay. what sense does that make. i understand the thing about trashy rv's. but a lot of rv's are the in between type.
has anyone ever asked how old the park is? i stayed at a park in duck north carolina that had that ten yr rule, his place was a dump. elect system must have been 40 yrs old. unlevel sites with mud holes, low voltage, many things that were just worn out. after looking around, i left after one night.
this cuts both ways. if you want just great looking rigs in your camp ground, then invest some money in the infrastructure.
frankly im tired of staying in antiquated campgrounds. that charge like they are outdoor resort, and thier services are like an old mobile home park.

Hence why I sat raspberries to the 10 yr rule. Take a look at your coach and then look at my 2000. Then go look at say a 2002 model. Except for paint combo's...there isnt jack squat difference

Our previous coach was 20 when we finally sold it. We went to many parks that had the 10 year rule and never had a problem. We always ignored the rule as our Bounder never looked old and run down. Never was even asked its age on arrival and many upscale parks. Never lied about it in making a reservation, just was never asked.

Hence the reason I always attempt to stay at TL's rating of 10/10/10. I know it isnt going to be some dump...and if for some reason I dont like it I move the next day. In some area's there just isnt any good CG's....but I know where the interstate rest stops are..

"Their park, their rules. My rig, my money. Another park on the DO NOT CONSIDER list. You won't find me in a place like that. I fully support the OP on this one, regardless of how old or what the rig looks like. Some people think their #$%@ doesn't smell at all because they can cover it in money."
I'm with OP and John on this. These snobby people can just kiss my A$$

10 year rules are not often intended to keep 10 year old RVs out of the lot, but it's a means of allowing them to screen who is let in and who is not. Pull in with a run down looking "Beverly hillbilly type rig" and they'll use the rule to exclude them.

They can not really do that as the rule must be applied to all or they open themselves up to a lawsuit. Of coarse, as another poster stated, the trash with an over ten tear old MH , that this rule keeps out,may be able to get enough money to buy a new one. Then they can go elsewhere as we do.
