I agree with Bob. Go to Yuma. Its much warmer. Remember: low elevation=warm temps and high elevation=much cooler temps.

I have spent a couple winters in that area. Yes, it can be cold. It is very dry in that area during the winter months, so snow is rare. I did see snow on the ground once but it was gone by noon. I don't like warm so I enjoyed the weather.
I'm not sure what RV park you are talking about. I don't know of any great RV park in Sierra Vista . There are some along Hwy, 90 towards Benson. But great??
I stayed at Tombstone Territories RV Park about 10 miles from Tombstone. Not a bad park but a drive to get to anything.
Illegals, I never saw one. I spend a lot of hunting quail & never saw one. But they are there. I won't let that issue bother you.
I sold my motor home. So I don't if I will get back there.

WOW!!! A virtual plethora of answers. MANY thanks to each and every one of you. I am rethinking SV because of the altitude. Living at 7000 feet here in So. CO I well understand altitudes effect on temp.
Yuma and Tucson are now high on my list. Most important ammenity to me is a nice heated pool. I love being in water.
As far as illegals go, I should hasten to explain that I'm only worried about the gang-bangers/thugs/welfare suckers. Those that work their butts off and just trying to feed a family at home...... well, God bless 'em.
Again, thanks to all.

I sure don't consider Yuma isolated. They have more shopping than I could ever begin to do..Lots to see and do and many many parks. We stay in Quartzsite and get to Yuma once or twice a month..We head into a safe Mexican town to buy rx's, glasses and get dental work done.Los Algodonas is easy to get in and out of.And we feel very safe. Outlaw Mexican border town 8 miles west of Yuma. Very safe and high snowbird traffic in season. Up to 3 or 4 hour wait to return to the US at height of season.

This will be my first year to head South for the winter. Initially, we've picked what looks like a great RV resort in Sierra Vista, south and east of Tucson. However, this is not "chieseled(sp?) in stone"; I may consider many other locations.
I'm looking for opinions as to whether this is an OK location, given what we hear on the news every day regarding illegals crossing into this area (what's known as the Tucson sector).
Let me know if you thing I'm just being paranoid or (on the other hand) I've got a death wish.
Boowho??? No.
But I would in SW AZ. in Yuma, AZ. every time!

Yuma is VERY cosmopolitan!
It is our first choice hands down too!
All this, and there is a river running through it!
Google; "city of Yuma, Arizona" - and check out the city's website - a very impressive place in Arizona to Snowbird!
