I feel this is a dumb question but I see it mentioned by other folks. 2005 GMC Yukon Denali XL with the 6.0. I do not know the gear stuff info. I hit the tow/haul button and put it into the normal "D" position. I am seeing where folks say they are towing in 3rd gear.? Is that what I need to be doing? I even saw where some folks do not use the tow button just drive as if they were not towing.
I normally tow in flat land with a few hills, bridges and overpasses and I find that when I use my CC it causes the TV to rev up which can not be good.
I averaged about 9.2-9.9 last trip.

You're doing OK. If it shifts up and down excessively, lock out the OD.

Use the tow/haul mode when towing/hauling. That's what it is for. Let the transmission decide what gear to be in. It does that every time you drive without the trailer, and it will decide just fine with the trailer attached, too!

I drive in OD all the time except in hills; then in 3. Tow Haul is only when towing with many stops and starts as in city driving.

Using the cruise-control in wet or hilly areas is like letting your "IQ deprived" neighbor do the driving. While it does not hurt the drive-train short term, it will lower the MPG. Better to just tap the foot on the brake and take over for the cruise when in the hills.
Also; if you lock-out overdrive in the hills you will find that the engine MPG will actually improve. When driving without CC if you can maintain climbing grades with over-drive on there is no reason to lock it out yet.

You're doing fine, by the above posts saying locking out OD they mean taking it out of D and put it into 3 or 4 or M (depends on what vehicle you are driving). If you didn't understand what they are talking about.

I have found that letting the tranny do the shifting while in tow/haul makes for the easist driving. I use CC all the time unless the road is twisty than I kick it off. CC does a better job in the hills than my foot and besides if I didn't use it in the hill out West, it would never be on. Downhill, I just pop the tranny in manual 5th or 4th and leave the CC on as long as I'm not overspeeding.

OK Wait.. now I'm not sure I understand I was of the understanding that if your TV had the TOW Button.. that button locks out the OD...
I Know on my F150 as soon as I hit the button a light on my dash comes on and sais "Overdrive Off"

I am not sure what GM vehicles have but my Lincoln and the Dodge van I used to own had buttons that you pressed that took it out of O/D. The Dodge button was on the end of the column shifter. The Lincoln has a floor shifter and the button is on the console. If you have a towing button, that is probably your O/D button. I like others, take it out of O/D when climbing hills and when I get to the summit I put it back in and drive with the O/D on the descent as well as on the flat sections.

Sorry so long. If you are getting 9.9 towing I would not change anything. Your GM was designed to tow with the tow/haul on and I would let the transmission do its job unless it is hunting excessively. That is tow in D. Not sure what you mean by rev up. That engine can handle 4500 rpm with no problem.
