Generator noise really doesn't bother me at all as long as the gen-set isn't against the side of my RV. I have noticed the campgrounds around here have started limiting the hours of use. The last campground we visited in the Sierra's allowed 2 hours of operation from 10:00 - Noon and another 2 hours between 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

After spending a miserable weekend at Silver Strand (Imagine a Wal-mart parking lot, rigs parked as close to each other as they can be, with 50 lawnmowers running constantly) I say "Get a solar panel".

I hate generator noise.

Can you justify having a generator that runs at full bore (loud) all the time? Can you justify feeling like everyone is looking your way whenever you fire up your Home Depot special? Can you... well, you get the picture.

Sure, it's easy to say a good generator is a rip off, but, there's a reason for generator rules in a campground. Too many people have taken their contractor specials because they couldn't "justify" a good generator.

I'm finding fewer and fewer loud ones where I camp, thank goodness. I think most people are finally getting the idea that jobsite generators belong on the jobsite, not in a campground.

Good catch on my typo.

I will edit my post.

I could tell they were not Hondas or Yamahas but there were not that noisy. They only ran for a little while

I'm with you on that. The ones that are bothersome are the ones that run forever, usually while the owners are inside, or even gone. I have never understood why they run so long.

Perhaps no inverter or no decent charger. Or maybe going past the 80% SOC. Maybe their stereo is single-ended class A 845 Triodes.

If you're not going to use it boondocking with others or in state parks that have no electric I would just get a Champion from Tractor Supply. I can't see pay that kind of money for occasional use. If you use it for overnites in Walmart lots or to charge up the batteries now and then they will be fine. Champions are louder then Hondas but not as loud as some construction generators. If you plan on using it all day long around a lot of folks in nature that is a different story, no generator is quiet enough in that case.

Bill .... that was a good one!!

.... or even worse these absurdly expensive pure Class A subwoofers from Krell:

A contractor's genny might be absolutely necessary to power a couple channels with these. Best thing is, these Krells could drown out the genny sound for anyone and everyone anywhere in the immediate area.

Very interesting. I used to be a aub nut, but found that the better the electronics and speakers, the less a sub improves things. Yes, even Helmut Walcha Bach. And subs introduce problems of their own, in addition to power consumption.

My 845 amps also heat the room, so not suitable for RV use. My new house is gonna have a little hood over them with an exhaust fan.

I would like to use the generator for boondocking at other locations and I am concerned about my neighbor. I do not plan on running the generator all day or for any long period. Question is what I might do and what I end up doing could be different. I am not set up for boondocking with just battery power for more than a weekend.

I really don't like the sound of generators, radios, TVs, or other such while camping. AC units - While I do understand why others have and use them, I don't even like the sound of them (one of several reasons that I don't have one).

Go solar.
