Last year I installed a SaniCon sewer dump system. It's the remote mounted one, not the one that attaches directly to your dump valves.
Lately I'm noticing an odor that appears to be passing thru the 3" hose that came with the unit. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what hose did you use for a replacement?

I read a similar post last year from someone who claimed the smell was coming from the hose. I called Thetford and inquired about this and they told me in no uncertain terms that it wasn't the hose causing the odor. I know if you leave the hose connected all the time that there will always be something leftover in the hose. But my hose is more like a stiff radiator hose and I doubt anything will permeate through it...

NorCal,
I called and got the same answer, but I'm still at a loss about the odor. It can't be from the pump, so it pretty much has to be the hose. Remember, air will leak thru a tire, so I'm not so sure that an odor can't pass thru the hose.
I remember reading about this problem before I had the pump, but I didn't pay any attention at the time.

IIRC, on the Yahoo Monaco forum, this has been discussed. Yes the hose will cause the odor, and the fix is to get a heavy duty sewer hose, and cut it to fit. Another possible solution would be to coat the existing hose with an impermeable solution/paint.

wilpower,
When you say "heavy duty" do you mean something like the red Valterra, or something heaver than that?

You could remove the hose to verify it is the source...

Why not contact SaniCon (or whomever bought them out)and purchase another hose?

I too noticed a smell this last trip. I cleaned the hose with fresh water and some liquid soap. I think it might have been the output hose holding some water that caused the smell. In any case I had not put chemicals in the gray water for that trip. I like to keep a bit of chemical in the gray and black because we live in such hot country and you can rinse as much as you want and still have some left in the tanks that can get foul.

Because they won't admit that there is a problem, you will buy another hose with the same fault.
