Becoming confused:::::::: We've got a 2001 9.5 ft Kodiak K99 T/C for 7 years and really enjoy it and have no reasons to change campers::
have been looking at replacing our 99 ford power stroke 187k miles with the transmission rebuilt 3 times. Have gotten quotes to trade to either new or very low mileage GM or dodge (32K to 38K to trade)
Question; it appears that we could get a used small class C 24 to 26 foot for about the same number of dollars (30 to 40k), and sell our p/u.
Now, first off we like the advantages a T/C offers; as we have had t/c's since 1971 ( they offer to us back roads and we stay off interstate most of the time) but we could gain in living area, comfortable chairs, with MH.
We have a atv to play with. Advice / thoughts/ pro's vs con's etc.
Thanks Jimbow

I guess it would all depend on your personal preference. We like the TC so that we can pull the boat and hubby can still have his PU whenever he needs it (whether at home or away). So, the question to you would be . . . do you use your PU for anything other than for the TC? Will you be able to get a MH to all the wonderful secluded places you take the TC? Is it really worth a little extra space?

Look at the C before you get very committed. They usually have a very low Cargo capacity.

My main dislike of a MH is that unless you tow a toad you are "stuck there" unless you break camp.
You have an ATV. Are you going to be able to ride it from camp to the trail head or break camp and haul it with the MH?
No pickup??? Don't you ever need to haul anything? Lawnmower, Home Depot run, dump run, anything???
If you only want to take the ATV out for a day are you going to have to tow it with a MH?

Thanks for those thoughts:::::::::: The only time the camper has been off the p/u in the last 3 years is when the p/u has gone into the garage. Some of those reasons stated is why we are thinking a small unit, as now we break camp each time, and seldom do we spend more then accouple nights in one spot. About half or more of our nights are boondockin. Yes we have another p/u for chores and etc.. Jimbow

If your existing 7.3 powerstroke is still functional for you, you may want to consider keeping it and just installing a external transmission cooler (even one from the newer 6.0L torqueshift tranny) A major reason why the older ford trannies burn up is from overheating. You will miss the milage your 7.3 gives you if you trade it in on a newer truck.

From your answers so far you may be better off with a MH. They certainly have the edge over a TC for size and comfort.
Unless you spend some $$$$ for a Tiger I would be concerned about the low ground clearance, 4x2 and low towing capacity with your preferences to boondocking.
I just sold a 12' high, 12000 lb TC combo so I could get off the grid farther. OTOH we also ended up with a nice TT for when DW goes!!!

If you have no need for a pickup outside of hauling the camper then I'd be inclined to go with the MH. I mean the whole idea of a TC is that you already have (and need) a pickup so you get a camper that you can load in the bed and turn it into a temporary RV.
At least that's how I see it.

Your Ford with the 7.3 is one of the better T/C platforms out there. If the rest of the truck is good for you, invest in a nice built tranny and cooler and take all of the $$ you saved and spend it on road trips.

No contest! Buy the motor home. Unless you use four wheel drive a lot.
