Techwriter, folks here are trying to help you, since you brought this subject up. Are you gonna just type smarty-alec comebacks or have a reasonable discussion with folks?

Nonsense. An air leak is nothing unusual and easily repaired. Other than that it may be a great deal.

Completely agree! Plus starboard is (right side) hence passenger side (paint a green dot on that side to help you remember).

I'd insist that the "as-is" portion of the contract be modified to see the air system repaired. It could be something as simple and easy as a ride height sensor switch failing or a ruptured air bag, but that bag will never fill if it is popped so that will show when it is started. Wait till you hear what they have to say about it and if you still don't like the answer make preps to leave and see what happens.

Techwriter - assuming this is your first contact with a DP, it may help your decision to know that large MHs sit on a three point suspension system, each point of which is controlled by its own level control valve. (some have a different system but ...)This allows the load in the motorhome to be varied but the coach will still end up being level when on the road. Often there is one valve on each rear side and a combined one on the front.

In your case one side is down - so either a check valve or the levelling valve on that corner is leaking a bit, or the air bag itself is leaking. There could also be a problem with the dump valve system if so equipped. Generally the air will leak out over a period of months and provided the MH sits up when the engine starts, there is no problem. Leaking down over a period of hours is an indication that work needs to be done.

Air up the MH and leave the engine running for 15 minutes and make sure the pressure gauges are reading around 120psi.

Turn the engine off and get out of the MH. Wait a few minutes (the levelling valves might hiss a bit as you move around the coach) and then go around listening for leaks. If the leak is bad enough to hear, then it is probably too bad to ignore. Soap solution and a lot of patience is needed to find the smaller leaks and if they are internal ie back through a check valve, then you may never find them without dismantling lines.

With MH shop labour running at $100 to $150 an hour and that amount not even guaranteeing competent personnel, you are right to be concerned - and underneath an air-bagged low vehicle is not the place for amateurs either.

As-is-where-is deals may not be a good thing for you to get involved with unless you like getting dirty and love spending money.
