Hi folks, haven't been on here in quite a while.

Our RV is a 1995 National Class A, 535, with the Ford F53 chassis. The RV worked fine last year when we put the rig in storage. Pulled it out this year and did our usual electrical check. Found both (L and R) turn signals don't work. Brake lights work fine. When you active brake lights, and then turn on turn signals, both sides brake lights go out.

I figured the flasher went out, or internally shorted. Open the Chassis manual and found the flasher unit is on the fuse panel under the dash. Located the fuse panel, and guess what...no flasher installed. Now I'm confused. Can somebody enlighten me....literally and figuratively? How do I start tracking this down?

Call me confused in Tracy.

While you are replacing the flasher..........put an electronic one in......a bit more $$ but, works much better than the old style.......

Did it fall out and is laying down on the floor somewhere?

Mine will do this after sitting a while. Try flipping the turn signal lever back and forth a bunch of times with the ignition on. The contacts get tarnished or something.

Hi Darrell C,
The exact thing did happen to me, I have a 1997 Georgie boy on a F53 chassis looked hi and low for the flasher and finally located it close to the floor beside the steering column on the right hand side. Replaced it with a electrical one the strongest one I could find and is working again check on how many directional lights the flasher will support in case of towing toad.

Good luck,

Dan.

My 1994 was stored over the last two Winters, and the thurn signals and some switches didn't work when Spring came. As another writer said, switch them on and off repeatedly - they do get corroded in some way. You may also have a bad ground in your rear lights - remove the light bulbs, clean and replace them. Also, my rear lights were grounded by a wire screwed to the frame - check for a rusted or broken chassis ground wire.

Tracked down the problem, thought I'd share for future folks with same problem who search here for answers. First, despite what the Chassis Manual states, the turn signal flasher is not mounted in the fuse panel. The Chassis Manual is wrong. On my rig, the flasher is mounted to the side of a dash support panel, under the dash, left side of the steering column.

The flasher was fine, as was the fuse. Problem was corroded contacts inside the turn signal switch unit (turn signals, 4-way flasher, wiper and washer controls all controlled from this same unit).

I determined good voltage into the switch unit, but no voltage out. I took the unit apart and found green, tarnished and corroded contacts. Completely disassembled the switch unit, cleaned all contacts to bright shiny smooth, reassembled with a liberal coating of dielectric grease, and reinstalled. Unit works perfectly. Not sure what that switch unit would cost, but I'd bet better than a $100 from Ford or a local RV dealer. Money saved for upcoming trip.

My 1995 Chassis Manual states that the Flasher is located at:

LH side of steering column support (C1)
