Just got our travel trailer, and we're going camping crazy. Looking for good sites within a few of hours of Richmond. We like things clsoe to the water, be it river, lake, or ocean.
We need full hookups, including sewage, and need to avoid mountains.
Our first two trips we to beth page and grey's point. We like them, and want to see more like them.
Other sites on our radar.
shenandoah campgorund
rapahock
trav-l in va beach
frontier town
cherrystone and/or kiptoepeke
Any reocmmendations for great campgrounds with fun stuff for kids within our range?

Shenandoah Hills RV Park, Hwy 29 south of Madison VA is a nice park from which you can visit Shenandoah Nat'l Park and lots of historic spots. Any camping within SNP is going to be boondocking with no hookups. It's on the East side of the mountains so no need to climb.

I will reword this so no one is offended. These CG's are not in Central VA but if you don't mind about a 6 hr. drive, go to Myrtle Beach. Plenty of CG's right on the Ocean. I like Lakewood CG but that is just my personal preference. They are all good in different ways. Since Frontier Town is on your list, I would suggest taking a look at Castaways right next door.

Nice move. OP requests info on campgrounds in central VA and you send him 6 hours South Carolina.
What are you thinking?

The question says "close to the water a few hours from Richmond". Although MB is not central VA. I thought I might suggest it since it is both a few hours from Richmond and on the water. Also Frontier Town is on their list. Just suggested Castaways because it is right next door.

Not in central VA but a nice place close to you is the Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach.

Definitely have Holiday Trav-l on our list.
Also we have the Shenandoah Vally campground on our list.
Rockahock is only about 45 minutes from us.
I'm really wondering about smith mountain lake, lake anna, lake chesdin, lake gaston, and some of the CGs in glouster.
