Lake Anna SP is our favorite state park but have water/electric hookups. The sites are large and the bathhouse is clean and spacious. You have to be a nature lover because the park is off the beaten track and if you are looking for activities to do, they are few and far between.

Kiptopeke is our second favorite state park and they offer some full hook-ups. Again, a little off the beaten track but a beautiful place right on the Chesapeake Bay. If you do not mind the drive over the bridge / tunnel, Virginia Beach is close by. You might try Cherrystone as they are a full service private campground that is close by.

You need to get over your "mountainphobia" as you're missing out on about 99.999% of some great adventures from Waynesboro to California.

Cozy Acres was nice. Lake Anna is nice also, but no sewer. There is a dump station that you can use on the way out. We can go and use the bathroom for 3 or 4 days and have no problems. Just the shower water fills up. We have a blue tote that I fill up and take over. We would just rather shower in the camper than in the shower house, although their shower house is always clean.

Another is Belle Isle but again no sewer, just dump station. We also enjoy Newport News Campground. We go down there monthly since we have season passes to Busch Gardens but they do have a lake that you can rent boats. But again, no sewer

I second this. SW VA is one of the most beautiful places east of the Big Muddy, and loaded with state parks and private campgrounds. We actually learned to look for mountainous areas b/c that is where the scenery, activities, and nice CGs are. One of our next destinations are the White Mountains in NH, and that is rugged country. Get a good TV and go, man, go!

I don't have "mountainphobia", I just don't have the Tv to pull it off.

I'm pretty close to my max weight. It hauls just fine, even over sort steep 'hills', but I don't want to wear it out.

Next year, when i buy a brand new silverado 2500, I'll be more adventurous. Until then my 1/2 ton tahoe will have to get me there.

Very close to Richmond is Cozy Acres in Powhatan. They have great fishing ponds. Also look at all the Army Corp parks over near Clarksville on Kerr Lake there are several and they are all nice.

I can understand the lack of a strong TV keeping you out of the mountains. You are also limiting / cheating yourself by insisting on full hook ups. There are a lot of great places especially government parks that don't have full hook ups.

Some of the nicest campgrounds in our area are state and Corps of Engineers parks. While they don't have sewer hookups on site, they do have dump stations...and most of them have water and electric sites. And the sites are generally more spacious and private than you will find in most private parks with full hookups.

We do a majority of our camping at state and COE parks. Our favorite is close to you - North Bend Park on Kerr Reservoir (aka Buggs Island Lake). We can camp for a week or more without filling our black tank...and our tote tank works great for taking the gray water to the dump station.

And when you upgrade your TV (a lesson I learned early)...you'll find some great camping in my part of the state.

As Lantley says, you're really cheating yourself out of some great camping by insisting on full hookups. Get yourself a tote tank and enjoy!!!
