We're staying at Aune-Osborne Campground in Sault Sainte Marie, but went driving around the other campgrounds in the area today, just to see what they look like. What we found at the Elks campground broke our hearts: a nice looking Bounder, still sitting in the campsite with some of the utilities hooked up, but the interior has been totally decimated by fire.

Nobody around to ask what happened (or when, although it had to be recent) but it had all the signs of a fire that started in the refrigerator-- the only place on the motorhome where the fire burned through the exterior shell was where the frig is located, and there were half a dozen used fire extinguishers lying right next to it.

There was an Rv.net sticker on the side, so folks here might know the folks that own it. Certainly hope they and any pets aboard got out all right...

Edit:
Owners Name removed by request.

Sorry to hear of their loss. Maybe we will read an update. I have given thought to an automatic Halon in that space but not sure of the value for that type fire.

We have one in rear frig compartment...it will trigger at 160 degrees, hopefully putting out any fire before it can even get started...

Can you provide a link to a source for that extinguisher? After seeing that Bounder today, my wife was practically in tears thinking about what would happen to our dogs if it ever happened to us when we were away from the rig.

I'm a little curious as to whether the 160 degree limit will work for us though-- we live outside of Phoenix, and cars out here can reach interior temperatures of 140 degrees when they're parked in the sun. That enclosed frig compartment has to be downright toasty inside when the ambient temperature is 115 degrees and it's getting direct sun.

Allow me: FireFight. These guys are great. Call them and they will work with you on any questions you might have.

I have an SS-30 Halon on order, as well as an SS-200 AFFF for the engine. My big issue with the "stock" 265 degree trip is that unless you can locate the head up in the cavity, there is no way that unit will trip if sitting in the bottom on the cavity. And if, or by the time it did I would be inclined to let it burn.Because it's down low, I wanted something significantly lower in trip temp. I think you will have no issues in PHX with a 165 trip link. Even if the air ambient is 122 degrees, that's a long way from the trip point.

If you contact Mac the fire guy The fire guy he sells a unit designed just for the refrigerators. I saw it at the Mobile Suites rally he attended in Colorado Springs.

Thanks for the replies on the extinguishers, guys, I'll take a look at those.

If anybody knows the folks that lost the Bounder, please send me a PM with their contact information. My wife and I plan to be in the area a week, and could make it two, if there's anything we can do to help them out.

Our 1995 Dutchmen (which was our first ever TT that we purchased in 2002) burned up in 2004 due to a fire in the refrigerator.

I'm not ashamed to admit I had tears in my eyes watching her burn. She was our first travel trailer, when our kids were much younger...and it was a really nice trailer.

We bought our systems from Mac the Fire Guy, after seeing is live demonstations at an Escapade rally, buying it was a no brainer.

Mac

Our dog is the main reason we bought ours too. As far as temps, can't answer that question. We have been in temps over 100 the last week or so and no problem....

I'm aware of the SS units but I can't fit one. Does anyone know of anything smaller/skinnier?
