Before I started using Stabil, my onan generator would be hard starting. Now it fires right off. I'm a believer

The additives are added at the Supply terminals depending on which brand is picking up. The additives are actually mixed with the gasoline in the tank truck as it travels to the service station.
Stick with the majors, Shell, Chevron, etc. Their additive packages clean injectors and valves.
If you regularly purchase from the local no name station, chances are your injectors and valves are fouled, as the additives in the gasoline are reduced or nonexistent. The good news is switching to a brand name fuel will begin the process of reversing carbon buildup.

Propaganda aside...
I ran about five tankfuls of Techron through my old Ford 460, got 'er to behave again. No backfires, no "I'll think about accelerating."
Magic juice? Probably not. But it obviously did somethinhg good.
Now I try to get major-brand gas, mid-range, and if I think the gas might sit a month or more I dump Stabil in the tank.
It's working and the old Ford's happy...

Sea Foam is great for gasoline engines. I stoppped using Sta-Bil after finding Sea Foam. Oldtymeflyr wrote: ...
For the diesels we use Sea Foam or Diesel Service, again to clean the injectors.
We have one car with flat tappet engine, we use a 4-ounce bottle of GM camshaft and lifter prelube (PN 12345501). Reason, the EPA is reducing the amount of zinc in engine oils and flat tappet engines need zinc in the oil. Some racing oils have more zinc and are still sold for off road use. Sea Foam has significant isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Do not use Sea Foam in a diesel engine. Better to use Stanadyne to clean injectors.
On your car with flat tappets, use diesel rated oil. It has enough ZDDP to keep it lubed. I use straight weight diesel oil in all my small engines that also have flat tappets.
If you want to stay with regular oils check out Torco for ZDDP additives. It may be less expensive than the GM additive.

Seafoam can give quite impressive results in a gas generator.

I have had good luck with Sea Foam in both gas and diesel engines.
The gas generator on the 1993 MH is a success story but not an over night one.
It ran so bad/rough at times I would have to shut it off due to it loading up and smelling so bad. After about a year of continued Sea Foam use (I never did the Sea Foam "soak" on it) it started running fine and still does two years later and with over 500 hours. It may have never been tuned up.
I think a dirty carb was a major issue but expect the carbon build up on the pistons was a factor too. Unless we are traveling doing back to back fill ups I keep Sea Foam in the tank at all times now.
Shell V-Power which we use when filling locally .has 3x the required additives but it does not seem as good as cleaning up a dirty system like Sea Foam. Sea Foam is good to rule out crude related performance problems.

I use SeaFoam regularly on my generators and vehicles that are not driven weekly, but for serious cleaning on something that has been sitting, I use Red Line. It is really powerful.
I have a 750 triple motorcycle, which has small injectors, and a little SeaFoam every second or third tank has helped it stay smooth-running.

Chevron advertisements brag that they use "Techron" in their gasoline. I have used Techron additive enough times in Mexico to determine without question that it helps to restore throttle response and fuel mileage in my own personal gasoline powered motor vehicles. This is the ONLY gasoline or oil additive that I have ever used that did anything at all that was perceptible.

Thanks for all the feedback folks.... I think I may hold off for awhile on adding anything as things seem to be running okay for now. At least I have some good ideas on what to do if things start getting sluggish...
Thanks again, John S.

Read up on Sea Foam. There are two schools of thoughts on RV'ing care. One is prevention and other other is fixing that which could have been prevented to start with.
