Over toward Metor Crater there is a place called "Twin Arrows". It is south of the interstate on the frontage road. If you drive pass the two large ARROWS sticking out of the ground about a mile on the frontage road you will come to a fork that trends south. I think there is a private sportsman's club down there. Anyway, right there , before the southern trend, is a small TURNABOUT. You are within about 1000 yards of the interstate and that patch of ground the TURNABOUT is public land. At least that is the way it was several years ago.
We stayed there over night, lots of WIND if you have a generator. I feel one could probably saty there for 3 days or so.
I suggest Ten-X also. Only 5 miles south of the park entrance. If over 62 U can get a lifetime Nat'l Park pass for $10 at any Nat'l park. With that, the cost at Ten-X is only $6 a night. Absolutely beautiful pine forest Cg. Sites large enough 4 the big rigs. Centrally located water and nicer Pit toilets. CG host on duty.
