Has anyone travelled the section of the Labrador Highway between Happy Valley - Goose Bay and Cartewright? This is the last section that just opened last fall. My wife and I plan to tour New Foundland and then take the ferry to Labrador and drive to Cartwright and then on to Goose Bay, Labrador City and then on into Quebec.
Thanks for any info.

I guess Little Kopit must be away someplace - she always has lots of info on this trip. I'm sure you'll hear from LK at some point.

The OP is asking about a section that just opened last December. With that link it is possible to drive the whole loop with only the ferries to and from Newfoundland. The government has a couple of web cams on the new section. It runs quite a ways inland, so the scenery is probably similar to the drive west from Happy Valley - miles and miles of relatively straight gravel and blackflies. As best I can tell, the ferry from Cartwright is still an option.

Yes, we just finished that trip about 10 days ago. The stretch you mention is between Happy Valley and the intersection with the road from Cartwright to Port Hope Simpson. It is rough, simply because it is not finished. We had to do extensive repair work to our trailer springs, shackles, and replace one tire. Much more minor damage done that could be readily fixed. If you go that way just be prepared and go slow. If you will write me personally, I will be glad to go into much more detail beyond the limits of the forum. WindsorJ

paulj, I just finished reading your blog and thoroughly enjoyed all the photo's and descriptions. Only one minor disappointment. I was eagerly looking forward to pics of the Manic 5 tour but none were posted. BUT, I really loved the entire blog.

Thanks,
Sidney
