I’m sure this has been discussed before but I can’t find an obvious post. What are the best options for wireless computer service per month or a series of days? Looks like it exists with Verizon Broadband and you need to buy a USB modem. We use Tengo when available.

Practically every cell phone nowadays is broadband capable and there is no need for a modem. I use my Verizon phone when wifi is not available. The service is $50/mo. but you can have it turned on and off as needed and the monthly fee is prorated by the amount of days used.

I call Verizon when we leave and have them turn on the data plan, then either get it all on my cell phone or cable tether my phone to my laptop,

I call and have it turned off when we get back.

Works fine.

If you get a USB modem, you can purchase a cradlepoint router and use regular wifi to access the internet anywhere you have cell service. I just need to figure out how to get a good signal in my metal box.

We just bought a Verizon MiFi, pay as you go. Was going to go air card and cradlepoint but this was cheaper and smaller.

Have only had it two weeks so I can't give longer term opinion yet, but so far we are happy with it. $50/month for 1GB, $30/week for 300MB, $15/day 100MB. Cost $150 with $50 rebate debit card. You can activate it when ever you needed it from the computer and a credit card or keep money in an account. If you deposit $100 in your account to start it gives you an account for a year without any on of fees and 2 months of service to use.

It allows 5 user at a time (pass worded) and if you plug it directly to the computer with included USB cable it becomes an air card with no WiFi for private use.

I have the MiFi card from Verizon and love it. It's very reliable and fast for cellular service. Only trouble is, I wish they had service in all of the Smoky Mountains. Can't wait for the faster and more widely available 4G service which should debut later this year in select markets.
