Hi everyone,
My husband and I live in New Mexico and our daughter and grandsons live in Florida. We will be getting the boys for the summer (ages 3,5, and 6) and were thinking of going in our Class C Motorhome. Here's the rub. What do you do with car seats ????
Thanks
Ellen and Damon

Winnebago at least only puts in one "latch" holder per RV - this is in the newer ones and I don't know if you have that or not.
What we do (2 1/2 year old and 3 month old) is take down the dinette table (no way our carseats will fit otherwise. So with that down we put the two car seats next to eachother. Both of them will have the seatbelts around the base like they should all be designed to handle and one of them also gets hooked on the hook at the back of the chair (down by the floor).
Now that makes these two proper facing -- the 2 1/2 year old faces forward and the 3 month old is backwards.
If I had to add a third child it would have to be opposite to them. I would rather have a child backwards facing in the "front" part of the dinette compared to having them sideways in the couch. There is no way (in my un-researched and humble opinion) that the car seat can be securely fastened in the side-directed sofa.
Now I don't know your layout -- do you have a dinette? Do you have any car seats there? Can you travel with the table down - if so test it out as that is the ONLY way we can get two seats in the dinette area.

Thanks for the info. We don't have any car seats here but can borrow some to check out what you suggested. We have a collapsible dinette table with 2 bench sets..
Should be a hoot. Did I mention that we have 2 medium sized dogs too. LOL..

I know I will get the "you are satan and will burn in hell" posts..
put them in the back and enjoy the trip...
How many of us grew up sleeping in the back of the Country Squire station wagon with the wood paneling?
Heck, they used to make backseat cribs for Pete's sake...
Your call of course,
get childs seats and strap them in in various spots... by all means
thats the law...

Here are our grandtwins (Zzzzzing) in our 22" Class C.
Having only 2 of them, we removed the cushions from the booth and strapped their car seats down with the factory provided seat belts as they would be in the back seat of a car.
Later in the trip, we did lower the table so they could play at stops. They were always in their seats while moving.
I agree with mikeak if we had had a 3rd.

Looks like you guys have more room Tim. I don't know if the ones for toddlers and baby's are larger, but there was no way we could fit them in with the Table there. Either it is the table layout that is different or the chairs.
Not sure what the "what to do with the seats was in regards". During the day we put them in the cab-over bunk. We don't use that sleep area right now so if you needed it I would say just place them in the drivers area while parked etc as you shouldn't need to really access that area

I noticed the room thing, too. Perhaps he has room, because the cushions are removed?
When I put in child seats I remove the table to have enough space. I had not thought of removing the cushions - I'll try that next time.

Just hit me -- you removed the cushions underneath didn't you? I was thinking the ones behind as those are removed in this picture. Removing the underneath should drop the car seats just like they are in the picture and the legs would be under the table insted of at table height.......
To quote Homer Simpson ........ DOH!!!!!
Trying this tonight -- exciting stuff

Hi MikeAK
Yes both the back and seat cushions were removed for
1) the additional space. The girls sat farther back and lower.
2) for carseat stability, so they didn't rock side to side.
My wife, daughter, her twins and I were returning from Seattle to Dallas. Daughters husband had flown back to retun to work.
While driving, we put the removed cushions in the overhead bunk and during the night, we put the car seats in the drivers and pass seats.
Wife and I slept in the overhead, twins in the booth and daughter on the lay down & pull out couch.
Our C is only 22', but the kids were small so we had pleanty of room.
HERE are pics of the rest of the trip.
I hope removing the cushions works for you. It sure worked for us.
Tim
