Has anyone tried using those Visa cash gift cards you can get at the store for buying on line?

Quote:

5 months later I pull up my bank statement and their were 10 debits for 29.99 all in one day
5 months later What are you thinking using your debit card (on the web no less) and then not looking at your statement for 5 months!!!??? Your bank is perfectly within their right to not retract the charges because you simply waited to long. You need to check your statements monthly - even daily with a debit card.

No but they should work. You should open an account at Bank of America or Citi and use their Visa card that allows you to create a unique card number with limited amount and expiration for every purchase. They all appear on your regular statement as though they were generated from your main card. BofA calls their program Shopsafe.

You went to a "dating site" to find old relatives??? Something doesn't sound right. If you want to do a family tree you go to ancestry.com or one of the other genealogy sites. Like ACTUAL genealogy sites after your initial sign up you will get automatic renewals until you cancel.

Even better than that - my CC company website (Elite Mastercard) will allocate a one-time use number for the amount of the transaction ONLY.
That number bills to the card but is only good ONCE and only up to the amount authorized.
Then it doesn't matter if the number gets hacked or "harvested"!

We have 3 credit card and rotate through them every 4 months.

OK, in English: We use one card from January through April, then switch to the second card until August, then to the third card through December.

We monitor all of the bills every month. This way it is easy to spot a recurring charge that doesn't belong!

I think the OP indicated that the charges were not made for several months after the original visit to the website.

I used it as a credit card no pin number was ever given. That was the other surprise when the bank told me it was used and accepted as a debit.

That said, when I use it as a credit card at gas stations no pin given these charges show up as a debit. So its already in the banks system to accept these as debits without pin numbers. After being on the road and using cards so extensively while I travel I see a LOT of questionable practices.

Like the new procedure at all Walgreens and gas stations. If you are charging less than 25.00.....NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED!! They handed me the receipt and I asked "don't you need my signature?" Nope not if its under 25.00.

And there is no a one time safety feature. I got on the road and forgot to buy something and 1/2 hour later pulled into a second gas station and SAME thing. You could steal my card and as long as you kept your purchases under $25.00 you could 'live' indefintely off my card.. no signature required.

And Banks are protecting us.

Where in the world did you ever get that idea?
