Very new at camping with my 1988 Royal classis 28ft..Was wondering if I am supposed to raise the MH off the ground when parked at the camp site.. I don't stay long maybe 4 days or so..Somesaid I must raise the front wheels off ground and make it level for fridge.. Should I buy some wind down legs for under the frame of MH?? I already have a TT which I make level thou...

Since most class C's don't have frame mounted automatic levelers, they are leveled by pulling the tires onto blocks of wood or the plastic stacking "lego" blocks just like a TT. I wouldn't think raising tires totally off the ground would be safe or practical.

We've had our MH to campgrounds about 6 or 8 times now and only once did I need to level with blocks. I mounted some stick on levels in cab and most of time can get close enough to level by watching these levels as I slowly pull/back into campsite. Where we park the MH tailgating for football games, I do have to raise front about 3 inches. I build 2 pyramids from the plastic lego levelers and pull up onto them.

I suspect an '88 would have the 'older'-type 3 way reefer for which, according to what I've read repeatedly here, proper leveling is more critical. The newer onees are more tolerant of being run somewhat off-level.

Unfortunately, I have no real idea of how to distinguish 'old' from 'new'. I think I've read that if the sheet metal 'chimney' above the LP burner is square, it's an old style, and if round, it's a new style. But I may be misremembering, or it may be just an internet rumor.

No.
Buy some leveling blocks. Put them under the tires on what ever side that needs to be raised. Most CG's are pretty level. I hardly have to use them.

Note: don't buy the Lynx Levelors they break especially when used on soft ground or sand, buy the solid ones.

I bought a small bullseye level that I put on the dog house inside when parking. With a little bit of moving back and forth within my site I usually can find a level area before I even get out of the MH.

If you have the $$$ then buy it. But like most of us, we can find $2500+ to use somewhere better, like drinks and gas.

I use Wood blocks that I made out of 4"x6" header beams. I then cut a angle on one side so I can drive up it better. I have 4 long beams, about 2' and 4 shorter ones. I usually only need to block up one side, front or back. In some of my Lake/Beach camping I would have to dig out one side and 2 blocks on the other side to level it out.

I did have a older slide-in camper and having the frig level was really important. As long as you comfortable in sleeping then the frig is good too. At least that is what I went by.

Good luck and Happing Camping, Robert

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a 2x12x16 and have them cut it into two-foot pieces. You now have a set of leveling blocks. If you need get some altitude you can build a ramp of one, then two, then three etc.

Be sure to support both tires of a dual; you don't want the entire weight on only one tire. Also, very important, don't let anyone stand close behind or alongside the rig when driving up on them; if something slips a block can shoot out quite a ways.

How to determine how many 2" boards to put under which side? I found that a 6" level on the counter worked great. Raise the low end of the level, each 1/4" (approx.) of raise equals one 2" board. Worked on my 18' TT and my 29' MH. Find a spot on the counter that is as level as your reefer (stove burners work well).

Hi Thank you all for your replys...All your replys are very good..When I got the 1988 Class C Royal Classic 26ft..The fellow had 2 blocks made up with 2"-10"about 1 1/2 ft long stacked 3 high each one a little shorter cut on an angle..There are 2 made up like this..But he told me it was only for a very unlevel site. So I didn't use them...I didn't have any problems till this past weekend..The freezer wouldn't hold it's freezing temperture...When I figured it might be not the level I put the wood boards setup under the tires...Low and behold my freezer stareted to freeze again....So I thank all of you for your help...It pays to read your replys on this Forum.....John,,,Cornwall, Ontario

I have an old pickup and a camper that slides in. I used to have a terrible time getting it level up in the hills. However, I have never had any problems with our MH. I have a 31 foot 1986 Eldorado. The guy that owned it before cut some blocks of wood to level it. To date I have yet to move them. One time I parked and was a little too unlevel. Moved about five feet and everything was fine. I didn't know anything about the fridge needing to be level though.
