We are young birds and not retirement age so we go to florida to work (somewhat and as little as possible too much fun things to do in the sun) each winter and this will be our third. 4+ months.

Our rig is a dodge van and a 20 foot freedom spirit trailer. No slides, not much insulation to speak of. Last winter in florida was PRETTY cold but our little $5 walmart electric heater did its job just fine. We pulled in the hose every night so it wouldn't freeze.

I say use what you have got and then figure out what YOU need/want after the first year. If you are content enough to live in your current rig for five months...go for it. AND florida is the land of LOTS of rv stores so visit the those stores and check out rigs, visit your campground neighbors and see what they have, etc.

Our AC in trailer is just fine for our 20 footer (but noisy as heck)...but I could see how southern florida might require more AC if you have a bigger rig.
