Try putting about 10 gal. of water and a quart of pine sol in the tanks and drive a couple of hundred mile before dumping. It wors for me and make the MH smell like a fresh pine forest.

You are going to waste a lot of time ,money and try your patience worrying about them . Just figure a system as to when to dump & disregard the poor system as they are. We gave up on them about 10 years and three units ago and so far using a day count system 3 days on gray & 7 to 10 days on Black. Fresh water seems to work somewhat decent!!! jb

While I'm convinced it's a losing battle, I just cannot surrender to it. It's like a personal challenge now! I find that using my tank-flush for 30 - 45min will usually result in accurate readings, but think of the wasted water, just to get those freakin' LED's to work right! Not worth it for sure.
We've had our Pace Arrow for over a year now and have never filled the black tank completely. I need to condition myself to stop agonizing over this ridiculous issue.......

We tried everything to clean our sensors, but nothing worked. Finally, we called a tank cleaning company and not only were our sensors now working correctly, the sludgy odor in the coach that we couldn't identify was also gone. For $200, we plan to use their service once a year, and consider it money well spent.

Ears2U - What make and model is your RV? Check your manual or check with the manufacturer to see if the sensors are removable like mine are. Mine just unscrew from the sensor housing (with the tanks empty, of course). Then, I just dunk them in a bucket of soapy water and brush them off with a soft tooth brush. (I usually use the DW's. I don't like the after taste )
Nerraw and DW - yours should be pretty much like mine.

Ears2U wrote: How do you clean your holding tank sensors? We have tried the ice cube bit, several commercial cleaners, etc. but nothing has helped. We flush and rinse vigorously, but evidently they are coated with crud and don't come clean. Any ideas?
Ya don't. Not permanently anyway, so it becomes a never ending job. I think the idea of using a $10 stud sensor on the outside of the tanks is the best "low buck" idea yet: cheap, easy, clean, and sustainable.
