Do you mean to say that you don't have a fresh water filler inlet on the outside of your trailer.

You haven't been paying attention. My 5er is 11 years old and only has a selector valve on the city water hookup. One fills the freshwater tank and the other position provides city water to the RV. I have often thought about plumbing a fill tube to it, not for boondocking but because adding bleach to sanitize the tank is such a hassle. I do not believe the pump will suck water from a pail into the system, but I have never tried.

I don't think my pump will suck it into the tank either.

Interesting to see that I am not the only one that has encountered this.

I'll probably add a valve or two so that I can fill my fresh water tank with the pump. The pump and plumbing on my trailer are located behind an easily removed panel in the storage area and that solution seems easier than trying to plumb in a fresh water fill port.

sooo... what happens when you are at a water fill station that doesn't have a threaded hose end on the filling hose?

I have been to three camp grounds, last year, that have some high tech molded plastic filling wand that doesn't come off and has no way of converting to a threaded hose end.

I've never been to a campground that had a filling hose. They have all had a valve with a garden hose fitting on it.

There is no way to fill my trailer without a pressurized water source from a hose with a male garden hose end. NONE.

And once I park my trailer there is not usually a water tap within hose range to refill the fresh water tank once its empty.

I'd be out of luck there... or out of water.

They have adapters you can use I forget the name of them. They are green and fit over the end of a hose with no fitting. Someone on this forum knows the name. Their cheap and everyone should have one.

Take a look at a Harbor Freight 12v marine water pump - $29.99 in current catalog item 09576. 200 gallons per hour, 23 ft lift at 10psi.
That would work for "moving" water from some type of container to the inlet on your trailer - via garden hose.

~

For campgrounds with no water to individual sites - carry 2 (or 3) 50 ft lengths of cheap 1/2 garden hose to go from the "group faucet" to your RV.
Usually requires someone at the faucet to hold it open ("on").

This also (usually) requires the item pete can't think of - a "Water Thief" . It has a slip-on compression fit on one end - and a standard garden hose connection on the other - to allow you to connect to the "smooth" faucet with no threads (no garden hose connection). Inexpensive item - about 6 inches long.
Everybody should have one!

Most newer campers have a water management system.

If they are so much trouble to fill it sounds more like a water "mismanagement" system and I have been to many campgrounds with no threaded end on the fresh water hose. For me it makes filling easier.

Some systems are better than others.
My Coachmen class A was really great.
The one on our new Sierra 356RL has some drawbacks.

Of course the Coachmen cost double the Sierra.
You get what you pay for I guess.

As for being at a CG where the hose does not have a threaded end.
I keep two or three plastic replacement ends like you get @ Home Depot on hand.
If I need to I slap one on & I’m good to go. If I’m in a good mood I’ll leave it for the next guy.
They only cost $1.50 or so, so no big deal.

This is another reason why I carry my own hose, channel lock pliers and allen wrenches (in case they've used a set screw to lock their hose to the faucet). If you wanted to add some sanitizer to the tank, you could simply find a short piece of old garden hose with the proper threads (male, most likely) and a small funnel and simply pour it into the hose. Better yet, get a small funnel with a flex spout for the purpose.

I have a 330FBH and I have discovered the same problem...seems like progress has bypassed those of us who still "camp" in our fifthwheels!

I will have to try and find a setup to use the pump to fill the tanks, or modify it to create an old school exterior access to the water tanks
