Verizon, Motorola and Google announced the new Droid X yesterday. It goes on sale the middle of July. Any thoughts about the new device?

Reviews so far, fast and big. Might be too big for a phone or at least those with small hands.
Camera has some problems(focusing, blurry pics) and video has some problems(white balance constantly changing) also...
The refinement is still an issue... With Android 2.2 is seems that Android is getting out of it's infancy and getting close to being a good OS. Many reports still reporting some sluggishness between menus and flow needs to be better.
I still like the HTC models better..
The Android market place is still a mess. Google needs to reign that in.

I am in need of a phone to replace my old Blackberry. Please explain the "mess". Do you mean there are many manufacturers using the open market Android system vs. Apple's one phone take it or leave it strategy? I won't consider the Iphone because AT&T stinks around here and I would not consider a phone that has to go back to the manufacturer for a battery replacement. I need my phone for work and dead battery means a dead paycheck. I can easily burn through a battery in a 14 hour day and need a phone that you can easily carry a spare battery. Recharging during the day is out of the question. To me, any phone with a fixed battery is intended as a toy, not a work instrument.

Mess means to me that Google is taking the old Microsoft route and has no control over the manufacture of the hardware. So you have to be knowledgeable and select the Android phone with care. There are bound to be clunkers among them although since phones also have to be tied to a carrier as well I doubt your chance taking would be as great as buying a PC. The iPhone and iOS is tightly controlled by Apple in the opposite pole. That approach brings complaints but the user experience is supposedly taken into account. For instance, even though the battery is fixed, the iPhone doesn't run down battery reserve like some current Android phones currently do. Right now there is a rush to provide features or the most or best of things with Android phones with no thought to balance. They make it a positive that you can use Flash yet most all Flash on websites are battery draining popup ads that annoy you. 8 mp cameras might be great on the surface but if all you do is send mobile shots to other phones or places like Facebook do you need 8 mp? Yet critics pan Apple for only providing a 5 mp camera balanced to what most users really use a phone camera for. One thing I don't want to do is carry spare batteries and tiny SD memory cards along with my phone.
