We have a large beautiful amphitheater in our park and several years ago we had to stop playing old movies on it because of the way copyright laws read concerning outdoor theaters. We then did boring educational films, a yawn! Then last year I started making our own films the first one called "What's Around the Bend" about secret places around FishBend. I am now involved in several other programs including a HD remake of Around the Bend. Here's my problem, I have invested thousands into Canon cameras, 8GB Quad Core computer, costumes, accesories and finally editing software-it's the software that has me frustrated, Magix 15pro, 16pro and Adobe Premier Elements 8 all of which crash if I go over 10 minutes of film anyone have a good HD editng program and what kind computer are you using? We are also looking for family fun films for the park.

Sean uses Sony Vegas Pro 8 to edit video on theLong Long Honeymoon. Note that Sony also offers a consumer version of Vegas called Vegas Movie Studio; while we haven’t used it, we suspect it includes everything you need to get started. All of these video editing programs work in a similar fashion. The key is to find one with which you are comfortable. Sean likes the interface and professional features of Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas Pro is expensive, but you can buy the consumer oriented Vegas Movie Studio for about $100.

After trying a couple of consumer level competitors, I switched to Vegas Movie Studio. The big difference for me is that everything works and it doesn't crash. I'm no pro, but give it an amateur thumbs up.

I've been a registered user of Sony Vegas Pro since it was originally Sonic Foundry Vegas. When it was first introduced, most of its' users were musicians using Vegas to mix their audio tracks. Slowly, users began to realize that it also does video. Personally, I think it's one of the best values in video editors today. It has a small, but loyal following. You can pretty much do anything so long as you take the time to learn its capabilities, including basic compositing and light motion graphics work in both 2D/3D. You're really just limited by your computer's hardware capability. It will also pretty much edit any video format on its' timeline, so long as you have the appropriate VFW and audio codec installed, most of which you can download for free.

You can download a full 30-day trial version at Sony's website here. Or download a version primarily targeted for the consumer market here.
