Walmart has a $12 solution to screen on the side doors to keep bugs out but let cool in (for those of you who live where there is any cool left these days).
On the hardware aisle, among the replacement screen and insulation materials, they have what is designed to be an easy screen door for doors. It is black nylon screen with finished edges and a pocket at the top. Included is a black adjustable cross bar that will go as wide as 36 inches. The length was 81 inches. But that can easily rolled around the top bar to become what ever shorter size you want.
It works perfectly to make a screen for my DYI "B"s side door without any need for any other work than installing when settled in at your favorite site and anchoring the bottom to suit.

Does it open like a door? Or is the screen loose and one enters from
the side?
Thanks for this info. I will check it out.

Yes, the screen Walmart has is intended to hang free at the bottom and just be pushed aside. There are Velcro attachments that can be made to hold the sides in place. For me, weights at the bottom solved all necessary need. Walmart also has magnets in packages in its sewing department.

Grrrrrr....our Super Wal-Mart does not carry screens. A manager in hardware told me there is a larger SWM down the road.
I will NOT give up my quest for this screen door!

I picked up a door screen from Walmart and cut it to fit my door opening. I used Wright's Iron-on Hem Tape to seal the edges. Looks like a factory job.

My solution was a roll of screen 36x81 which I cut in half lengthwise and some off the ends. I got a roll of magnetic tape with adhesive on the back and cut it into strips for the top and sides of the screen. Not relying on the adhesive of the magnetic strip, I put glue over the screen on the back of the strip. The magnets hold it to the top and sides of the door opening and there is enough overlap in the middle to walk thru. I also put a couple of velcro pads to hold it shut in the middle. This sort of works.

The screen sounds interesting. However, living in fierce mosquito/blackfly country where they will infiltrate the tiniest gaps, would this screen work? Or are we just talking keeping out a few flies?

Ranger, I guess you'll just have to try one ($12 US or so) or come south. I just got back from a week in New Mexico's high country north of Glorieta. No bugs other than an occasional fly on his or her way to a nearby corral.

I'm heading to Wally's tomorrow for the screen door. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for the idea.
