I've used poison, traditional Victor's traps, and a place where I used to work used the sticky traps. I hated all of those.

With the poison they would die somewhere where I couldn't get to them and stink up the place.

With Victors they would sometimes trip the trap but get away, or get maimed but not killed. Ugh. That gave me the task of killing them.

But by far the worst was the sticky traps. They do the job, but it isn't pleasant. They scream in agony for hours and will try so hard to get away that they rip their own skin apart and bleed all over.

Recently I got one of these no kill traps. It is awesome. I had two mice in my rig and within 12 hours of receiving this trap they were both gone. No mess, no smell, no problem. I take them out to a field and release them, which I think the snakes and owls appreciate.

As far as preventing them from getting into the rig, another method not mentioned yet is to prevent them from climbing up your power and water cords. I used to live on a boat and we would use funnels. Slice the funnel open, fit it over the cord so the wide end faces away from the rig, and tape it on. When they climb up the cord they can't get past the funnel. CDs or DVDs work for that too, in the same way. Cut them to the center and fit over the cord, then use zip ties or tape to hold them in place.

Just to add to the paranoia - mice are probably in your stick house, too, you just have not noticed because they have more area to hide in.

The spray foam insulation can be easily chewed by mice and is pretty much usless. For a boat supply store, but some bronze wool, looks like steel wool except it will not rust. Push this into cracks and such and then you can seal over it with a caulk.

Also, keep traps set in the trailer and check them frequently. Never leave food on the trailer that mice can get into.

And no reason to be afraid of a mouse, he is scared of you too.

Of course, the best way to keep mice out of the trailer is to turn a rat snake loose in there.

Enter "Mice" in the search box at the upper left.

(Don't limit the search to 5th wheels)

It's a common problem (common post) - and there are lots and lots of replies and how to get rid of the critters - and most importantly how to discourage them from returning.

Some claim the electronic gizmos work - some don't, but plenty of replies (over 1,000) to choose from.

Different key word will probably get 1,000 more, LOL!

I think we might have the same unit only a 2008 for us. Anyway....check around your slides. We had a mouse get in from a small space around the bottom edge of the living/dining slide. We now store it indoors during the winter and use the plug in ultrasonic pest reppellers. No further problems for the past two years.

We keep our RV in the driveway next to a wooded area. This might sound kind of crazy, but we keep a bowl of cat food under our rv in the driveway to encourage the local feral cats to hang around. Once in a while we see a dead mouse under the RV, but never inside.

Just keep a couple of small Tupperware like containers poison close to the walls when you store the unit. Put lids on for travel. When you get to your camping location, open up the containers and place onto your tires.

Find a margarine tub lid. Cut a hole slightly smaller than your power cord in the center. Make one cut from the edge to the center. Place the lid over the cord before the entrance into the RV. That will stop the little buggers from climbing the cord into the unit. Tires are the next favorite spots for them to reach the RV.

Remember, a mouse can gain access trough a hole the diameter of a pencil.

They are cute though

I read somewhere, maybe on this Forum, that Irish spring soap would keep them away. So we tried it. Just open the box and leave the soap in the box. We have about three or four in different places in the 5ver. Seems to work. No mouse signs yet. Jim

Won't garlic give the mice indigestion and bad breath?
