I have a Dish 1000 set-up at home with a 722 receiver. I bought a tripod and used 500 dish for the RV. I use the 311 receiver from the bedroom when we go camping. Never had much of a problem finding the satellites, using the cheap sat finder. The last two times camping we were in spots with a lot of tall trees. The weather was bad so I tried to set-up the dish to watch ball games. The trees were in the way but I thought I could shoot between, and over them. No such luck. When the sat was found it was looking right into the tree canopy, but only sat 119. No problem, thats the one I needed. Past week-end same scenario, 119 came in at 62. I could not find 110, but the read-out on screen said I had 119 and 129. I know 129 does me no good with the 311 receiver. I have tried the check switch feature every way possible and still only 119 and 129. When we got home I set the dish up with a clear southern view, still only 119. I tried moving dish east but no 110 and I lose 119. My question is, can you get 119 staring into the trees, and what do I do to find 110. Mast is plumb, and moved both ways from 119. Works when reconnected to 1000 dish at home and check switch function. One bad LNB?

If you are receiving 119 and 129, your dish is pointing 10 degrees too far to the west. That you turned it to the west and couldn't find 110, does not change that fact.

I have already tried moving the dish east, after marking present location. This loses everyting. Is sat 119 so strong to find it through tree canopy?

I had the same problem, but i could not get 119 sat, i always bring a model 2800 with me just to dial in the sat signals i know the older receivers give better signal strength the newer ones are very weak in signal area...It was weird though i've been using the dish 500 for 20+ years and i thought i was good. I'm not sure but im not the only one that has had problems with it..I wish they would just stick with 1 sat..It would help things im gonna try in my driveway at home tommorow to see if i have the same issue..

Just a reminder, the satellite will be located approx. 40-45 degrees above where lnb arm is pointing. So you can be pointing into trees but get signal from above trees.

I ran into the same type poblem with my old dish 500. The one I had needed an external switch connected between the two LNBs. I was able to connect the meter to just one side at a time, so that if I got 119 with the 119 LNB, I was OK and usually would get 110 with the other LNB. Then with the switch in place, everything was fine. Tried the same thing with a newer dish, and started getting 129, plus all other types of problems. Turned out that I didn't need the external switch with it,so just connected one cable, and everything was fine, with both 110 and 119 right where they were supposed to be. Go back and check your skew angle, and also your altitude settings. Widh you luck.

I have a Dish 500 with a Pro Plus dual LNB i found using the Align A Site to aim the dish made short work of it. IMO it was worth the money.

I've been using my Dish 500 with a winegard tripod for 4 or 5 years now. I do not use satelite finders of any kind. Everytime I've had trouble it was always ME.
From not having the mast plumb, having elevation off or having skew off, to trying to 'shoot' thru the trees, or a combination of these problems, I have to say that the problem is always me not setting up correctly. (even the time that a 'A' replaced the travel trailer next to me, taller and closer blocked the signal, my fault for the placement of the dish)
I do agree that the older receivers seemed to have better signal resolution then the newer ones.

At least you know your LNB's are OK, you ARE hitting two satellites, just one of them is not the one you wanted.
