Beg to differ.
Even weekend camping w/o power means no convection microwave use. We have a pretty substantial off-the-grid power setup, but using the convection micro would cause my batteries to implode.
I want an oven!
Regardless, if I'm using electric, I'll take our portable toaster oven over the microwave any day.

We have both the gas oven and convection/micro. We rarely use the gas oven, but it has come in handy when doing a bigger meal. There are times we need both at the same time to cook. The gas oven is also handy when dry camping. The rest of the time it is a storage compartment.

Personally I never understood the need in motorhomes for corian 'hide away covers' to hide the range and sink. They just get in the way if you actually use the kitchen. If you wanted the look of no appliances, why install them.
Sometimes, it's nice to have the extra counter space if you're not using the range or sink.

be careful if you have Newmars of a few years back when they had two types of Corian. one was solid and certainly could be sanded like you said. another cheaper one was a very thin veneer and you would sand right thru it. I saw brand new ones on the dealers lot that had cracks from the corner of the sinks on those already.

The heating effect of microwaves was discovered by Dr. Percy Spencer, an engineer with the Raytheon Corporation, during during a radar-related research project around 1946.

FOREVER FREE wrote: In our searches into DP's we've seen many that we really liked but then realized that they did not have an oven. Instead they have a convection oven/microwave. Just wondering why this is. I totally will not buy another diesel coach without a gas oven. I never knew how much I would miss an oven - until I bought my current coach that only has the microwave/"convection" (whatever 'convection' is). The microwave/convection oven is 6' off the floor of the coach at eye level - it is unsafe unloading any hot stuff, since it's way up in the air.
My last coach was a let '70s Vogue diesel - an outstanding rig with a full gas oven, microwave AND to the outside exhaust fan over the cooking range. I regret selling it at times, I must admit, but they say; 'newer is better....' Not so in my book.
I have vowed to special order my next coach, or retro-fit my next coach with a gas oven. Baked potatoes are NOT thew same cooked in these new fangled convection ovens.....no sir!
And while I'm on the topic - I will only have an outside exhaust fan in my next coach. Not these inside exhaust fans like some apartment.

We are satisfied with just a microwave/convection oven because it is simple and any cleanup is easy.
