Camping in a parking lot at a swim meet with the family on a university campus. About 3AM LOUD banging on the door followed by OPEN UP POLICE.

Opened the door, two police cars with spot lights on the door and two officers with guns drawn... and me in the raw.

Only upside was they gave me till 7AM to be packed up and gone.

We were camping on top of Guanella Pass, CO a few years ago. About 2am we were awoken to some very loud air horns honking, followed by looking out the window to see red/blue lights strobing. Then about 3 minutes later a helicopter with bright landing lights landed in the field beside us.

Turns out some drunk guy got his PU truck stuck and 'told' the camp on the other side of the field that they 'had' to help him get unstuck. They told him they didn't have tow rope/chain or anything to help with. He became beligerent and started throwing rocks at the guys girl friend, calling her names and such. The good guy finally hit the drunk guy up side the head w/ a shovel. They called 911 and the ambulance and chopper showed up. Everyone was packed up and gone when we got up in the morning.

We didn't really know what was going on till we got back in town to see the report on the nightly news.

We were camped at Haines, Alaska at the Chilkoot State Park. Ranger said to be careful as they had had recent grizzly problems with the bear tearing up some tents and campsites. Shortly after lunch the 37,000 lb. coach started quivering and shaking and the first thing I thought of was a bear tearing up something trying to get in. I ran out banging pots and a hatchet, and yelling to chase him away, and found nothing. The next day we found it was a 5.2 earthquake! Good thing there was a fair amount of room between camp sites. Duhhhh!!!

We were crossing Wyoming and I pulled off the road to catch a wink. We were out in the middle of no where. Slept great except the two mile long coal trains that came through. Got up the next morning made a pot of coffee and was going to go outside and sit in a lawn chair and watch the sunrise. Opened the trailer door and there stood about 200 head of cattle packed along the fence about 10' from the trailer staring at me. Must of thought we were the gravy train. Still sat, drank my coffee and watch the sunrise. Cattle don't say much in the mornings! I guess they weren't in the moooood.

We were camping in tents in a field in the Sierras several years ago. My sister put her food in the back of her pick-up in large plastic crates. She must not have closed one all the way. The next morning we woke up to a horse standing among the tents eating bread from the crates... better than a bear!

This past winter while boondocking near Borrego Springs California I had to quickly come to the aide of a downed ultra-kite flyer on the ground in high winds. My photos & post for that day are here... http://thebayfieldbunch.com/2010/02/today-i-had-to-run-very-fast-very-farto.html
