When asking an electrician for help be sure they are familiar with RV wiring. More than one has wired the plugs wrong thinking the wiring was the same as residential wiring and smoked peoples RV electronics. Also there are very good diagrams online with a little searching.... good luck
The mistakes are made with a 30 amp service which is 120 volts. A 50 amp service is wired just like a residential range and no electrician should ever screw that up unless they are not competent.

I think you were correct right up front.

However I have done a heck of a lot of wiring but do not have a licence to do that.

You also got some great explanations on the issue.

What you are proposing WILL work.
Only comment is that it will be hard to have a dual ganged breaker to provide the simultaneous disconnect I believe is required by code.
Unless that bothers you I'd say go for it!

You are on the right track. What you said is correct. 50 amp RV plug is the same as a 50 amp stove outlet in your stick house.

To the OP.. Unless I made a serious mistake in reading you have it right

Round pin = Safety ground
Opposite pin = Neutral

Side pins are L-1 and L-2 giving 240 volts side to side and 120 volts either side to neutral

That is proper, that is how I read your description.

This is why I recommend 50 amp outlets to folks hiring it done, Every electrician I have ever met will do that one right.

30 amp outlets are often wired wrong however.. Resulting in serious damage to the rig. (This last does not apply here however since you are doing it right)

What you are doing sounds correct, but as others have said, you should have it checked out by someone who is qualified. You can cause serious damage if you wired it wrong.

One note here, and I'm sure I will get some flames from this, running 50-amp wire from the house to the rig can be difficult. We ran 30-amp 240-volt wire and used a 30-amp 240 volt breaker in the house electrical panel. The wire was a lot easier to run and still gives us a total of 60-amps in the driveway. If you do this, make sure you use the smaller breaker in the house panel. You don't want to over tax the wiring.

Green is always safety ground, white is always neutral and the other two are hot, usually red and black. It doesn't matter which one of those go where because they are always 180 degrees out of phase.

Saint Peter has met a lot of people who trusted the color of the wire. Test each lead, it's easy to do may save your life and your equipment.

WHOA HOSS! (Stoves Are The Same As RV's)

Unless Rip Van Winkle here fell asleep for a few decades the last time I checked a THREE PRONG (Two With A Ground) is L1, EARTH GROUND, L2. Stoves with three prongs plus a fourth have neutral for lamps, fans, ignitors, etc.

Also help me rhonda --- do not makeup plugs and sockets still have pin orientation markings on the hookup (wire) side? Like L & L & N, and a green tinted terminal for earth ground? Or, is this stuff coming from China now?
