Finding a campground is probably the best solution if it's extremely hot but if you decide to dry camp in a parking lot don't go there until it's dark. Find a local park and hang out in the shade until the temperature drops or the park closes. Those asphalt lots hold a lot of heat which will radiate up into your trailer.
Have fun!

Sounds like you do have a generator. If I'm out at night or the day and not in a campground I use the generator. Not picking on anybody here but if a rig is equipped with a genny why not use it?
I only say this because you sound as if you want to avoid a campground? Most of the time you should be driving anyways? And only need the genny at night,if I'm understanding your trip plan correctly?

I don't Wally Dock during the day when it is hot--the pavement gives off an incredible amount of heat. I find a park or even a side street nearby that has trees tall enough to park under and stay there til it is dark or cool enough to move the rig to Walmart. I use Next Exit/Garmin etc to locate a park then drive the last 5-30 miles to Walmart. Parks allow everyone to get out and walk, toss a football, use the BBQ etc. Some parks have pools, and if you are traveling with kids that can be a big plus! You want your trip to be fun and relaxing, not just full of driving from here to there.

You will need to run the generator or find utility power. As long as it is permitted then it certainly will not hurt the gen to run it 24/7. If you can run the gen/air during the last couple hours drive to precool a bit I recommend that also.

You can run the genny, but pulling the load AC puts on it you spend half to two thirds the cost of hookups for gas at todays prices.....JMHO
Also the further west you get you'll pray for 70* nights.

We use a Fantastic Endless Breeze. It moves a lot of air for a little bit of 12 volt power. Of course, it doesn't dehumidify like an air conditioner, so it works less well in high humidity.

They operate on 8 D batteries and are supposed to last at least 24 hours. When I first tried it after getting home, I put in 8 batteries that had already been used and left it running all night long. The next day, it ran about 9 hours until it started slowing tremendously - for a total of 22 hours on used batteries. We have one for our bedroom and one for the girls' bed
room.
I hope this works well, but it is forcasted to be 90 all weekend, but not quite that hot in the mtns.

Those fans can easily be run off your house batteries, since 8 dry cells at 1.5 volt = 12volts. (make a cord with Radio Shack parts).
Mel....sorry about the earlier blank post!
