Obviously I am totally clueless when it comes to electronics or I wouldn't be asking these two questions.

I want to run by pair of Honda Generators (2000i and the 2000i companion) from the bed of my truck. Combined, those produce 33.4 amps max. and 26.6 rated.

Question 1 - My regular 50 amp power cord only reaches to just near the front of my trailer. That is why I need an extension cord in the first place. I only need about 10 more feet, which is why I plan on buying a 25 ft. cord. A 25 ft. 50 amp. cord is $100, while a 30 amp is 1/3 of that. Can I even use a 30 amp extenson cord due to the max. rating being 33.4 amps or would I have to use a 50 amp extension cord?

Question 2 - If I can get by with using a 30 amp extension cord, can I combine a 30 amp extension oord with a 50 amp power cord?

Someone please help this poor lost soul. Oh, and thank you in advance.

I don't think a 50amp cord well plug into a 30amp service or the other way around 30 into a 50amp.
Trying to push 50amps through a 30amp cord well over heat the cord I'm sure.
I'm sure there is a reason for this..

I think those generators only have 20 amp plugs on them.

You'll need one of these link to connect you 50A power cord to the 30A extension cord. As long as you only draw 30A or less you'll be fine.

Thanks beerbreath. That answers the question of combining the extension cords. How about the other question. Would you use a 30 amp. extension cord on a pair of generators with a max. rating of 32 amps.?

I am not familiar with the generators you mention. I know that you have to run them in parallel. If you know how to do that, I think there is little risk in running the 30 amp cord to supply the trailer as long as you limit the loads in the trailer to less than 30 amps. You should have some way of monitoring your amps with this setup.

Yes, don't try to load more then 30A, like two AC's.

I assume you have one of these. link

I'd do it. Just use common sense when turning on appliances. Even in you drew 32 amps I don't think the cords would burst into flames or anything.

Good luck.

Yes, I have the connecting linkage.

I would limit my amp use as much as possible (I wouldn't attempt to run both ACs for example). I was just wondering what would happen if somehow I hit the 32 amp mark with a 30 amp extension cord. No, I wouldn't want to see the extension cord burst into flames.

Thanks for all of your input. I guess one other answer is to go ahead and fork over an extra $60 for a 50 amp. extension cord, but I didn't want to do that unless I had to. But, I'd rather be safe than sorry. So far the responses seem to be that this is not much of a risk.
