I've been using a high temp stovetop popper with a crank to stir the corn around. Even with fresh corn, it pops out tough. Tried using Orville Redenbacher microwave corn in the popper. It comes out tough, too. Also tough done in the microwave. Don't like to microwave it because too much doesn't pop. Suggestions? Thanks.

We use the same type stovetop popper. I find if as soon as the corn stops popping if I dump it into a pan it is more tender than if it sits in the popper a few minutes. I think that's because of the steam build up as it's popping. Another trick I learned to have tender crisp popcorn is to place the fresh popped corn in a open topped roaster pan and place in a 120 degree oven for about 20 minutes. If you ever get the chance try some tiny tender white popcorn. I find it in northern Indiana. You can also find it online and order it.

When we are RVing/camping, we exclusively use . It can be found for anywhere between $0.25 to $1.00 each. No microwave oven, no extra pots/pans.

Always very consistently excellent results if you remember to keep the pan moving and use a low flame!

When we camp with a group, I take my Gold Medal popcorn machine and use NaksPaks (not sure I spelled it right) with sunflower oil. Great popcorn (better than movie theater popcorn that uses coconut oil). When it's just us camping, I usually take a bag from home.

Read the label on that Jiffy Pop...geez that stuff is lethal. 10.5 grams of trans fat in 1 package. OMG!!!

Walmart etal sells a popper specifically for the MW. Works great, no lethal dose of transfat.

I use the Whirly Pop which I am guessing is what you use.

The instructions when I got it (Yes, I am male and actually read the instructions) say to use medium heat. That is what I do and hardly ever have tough popcorn.

Mmmmmmmmm. It tastes so good!!!! The trans-fat has plenty of time to clear out of the bloodstream between camping/RVing trips!

As I mentioned, we use the JiffyPop when camping/RVing.

At home I use a Presto Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper when I want to make "healthy" popcorn. Or, I use a West Bend Kettle Krazy Popcorn Popper when I want to make REALLY GOOD popcorn that tastes better than anything at a movie theater/State Fair/a Disney Theme Park, or a nice warm sticky batch of yummy kettle corn.

Not to hijack the tread but on one of our last tent camping trips in the 70's we found a Jiffypop can in the dunp in Tin Cup CO. Still have it. In the dump next door we found Budweiser bottles. Interesting.
