I 2nd the awning lock. Fast and easy to install and use. Just grab it with your awning hook, pulldown 1/2" and turn. Lots easier than the cords and clamps at camping world.

+1 on the awning lock.
Our awning unrolled in high winds near Green River, UT, a couple years ago. We were lucky to save the awning. Put the awning lock on to prevent it from happening again. As others have mentioned, the awning arms stayed locked against the RV in the stowed position, the wind just got under the awning and unrolled it. Not sure how the little flip lock allowed it to unroll.
During my travel today between Mojave and Tehachapi, I saw a Class A on the side of the road with its awning out, ripped, and the roller off the arms. High wind warning was posted and it was windy!

The awnings that unrolled. Did they have the metal wrap on them?
I used to put the velcro straps on the waning arms. Never saw a way to wrap the waning itself.
I also had an Awning Lock on one MH.
Now on this MH we have the A&E 2 Step. No way to put straps around the arms. Fits mtight up on the side.

Here's another vote for the awning lock ($49). The only way to truly avoid unfurling under any failure scenario is to completely immobilize the roller. Securing the arms won't do it. Moreover, I preferred not to drill holes in the side of the RV, and the awning lock only requires 2 holes in the awning arm and one in the roller.

Our awning started to unfurl last year in Arizona with 60+ MPH crosswind gusts while on Hwy 40. Our traveling companions traveling in front of us had it start with their awning too, right at the same time. This caught both of us completely by surprise and was unnerving to say the least because we both invisioned what the result could have been.
For this to happen and not catch/notice it early is of course something you NEVER want to happen, so a positive lock for insurance is worth every penny IMHO. I didn't want a lock that required making any new holes in the MH or didn't rely on lining up a pin in a hole that might/could shift position slightly from rollup to rollup.
Here's the only awning lock I could find that clamps the awning from rotating while at the same time meeting the above requirements:

Well, I ordered the awning lock on Friday. Wasnt sure how to specify the type on the order form so I called. Very nice guy, Keith I believe, answered the phone. I told him I was going on a long trip and was interested in getting it fast if possible. He said he was on his way to the post office but would wait if I was planning on ordering. Well he did and I recieved a tracking number within an hour! I should get it early this week, I'll let you know how the install goes and how it works. Again, thanks everyone!
