I just saw the other post on the subject. It seems they are nothing but trouble. I really like the Ford trucks but not if they are problems just waiting to happen.

I love posts like this that have absolutely no experience with the 6.0 and are posting because "they heard something".

To the OP, here is a link to a (fairly) recent thread about the 6.0 that is authored by a person that knows a lot about the 6.0 engine.

This is a link for a You Tube video of another guy that is very knowledgable about the 6.0.

Check these out by some guys that KNOW something about the 6.0, rather than someone that has nothing constructive to offer.

I hope you realize, the post you quoted WAS the OP!

120,000 Trouble free miles on 6.0 in my sig. But I have been very diligent in my routine maintenance,(filters, oil etc.). Had 1 weak injector replaced two weeks ago (under extended warranty). Even without problems I extended my warranty to 200,000 miles, the cost of repairs (turbo, oil cooler, egr cooler) make it a safe bet. If you buy a used one get a full print out of repairs on the vehicle from your local Ford dealer and make your decision from there. Many have had good luck with this engine and many have had very bad luck with them. Luck of the draw. But 05 thru 07 engines seem to have a better track record. Good luck.

I worked for a Ford Dealership for 20 years. Unless the engine has already been replaced, I would advise staying away from the 6.0. In my opinion the 7.3 was one of the best diesil engines ever if you can find one.

Well I can and do speak of experience my brother bought a 04 6.0 F250 had it 6 weeks with only 125,000 on it even had talked with the former owner who had already replace the egr valve etc....(he bought the truck from a dealer) He paid out 5,000 for egr and all it took out from when it went( the antifreeze looked more like oil than antifreeze) I tried to tell him there were issues with that engine but he really wanted a diesel and the deal was too good to pass up. The dieselplace is a good site with loads of info. And you'll hear plenty of mine never had a problem and alot of "I used to have" 6.0's..... I have seen plenty of real good deals on the dealers lot's and in the papers for sale almost all are 6.0's and low milage.....If that engine was good I doubt you would see so many for sale, just try and find a 7.3 and if you do buy it as they go quick and those who own won't sell'em I bet. There's alot of talk on this site and other's regarding the 6.0's Good and bad hope the best on your choice.....I bought a F250 w a V10 and like it as well as all the diesel's that I have driven someday I may upgrade to a diesel but I got what works for me and so far I'm happy with my choice and the V10 runs as good as the those diesel's that I have driven....But that's just my opinion....

Curt, The other post I was refering to was the link you posted. The ricatic explanation is very good and addresses all the problems with the 6.0 engine, however it appears there are more problems with that engine then there should be. Also they are all expensive fixes. True they need to maintained correctly, but who needs the rest of the problems that come with them, even if there is a fix for it.

I agree with that . . . made his decision even before posting here so why bother asking.

This was pigbike's first post.......

I am considering buying a 2004 F350 with a 6.0 diesel engine. I have heard stories about the early 6.0 engines having several issues with the injectors, head bolts and gaskets. I have been told to steer clear of 2003-2005 6.0 diesels.

Has anyone have serious problems with theirs. Buying a older diesel with no factory warrantee is a bit dangerous.

Then, 7 minutes later, he posts this

It would appear to me, that after posing his initial question, he decided to use the search function and stumbled upon a very informative thread. Perhaps you guys are a little too sensitive? In any event, I don't think pigbike meant anything by his comment other than he was surprised by the number of issues he found in such a short time.

Exactly. If you do an internet search, you will find enough problems to make you not want to buy any vehicle. Cummins owners are having problems with CELs, lack of power, EGRs, turbos and dpf electronics. Duramax owners have problems with EGRs, injectors, alternators, and squeaky belts. What you are not likely to find are the number of people who have had no problems. The reason is simple...people post their problems looking for solutions. They usually don't just post about how well their truck is doing.

The good news is that since there are so many horror stories, you can usually pick up a good truck for cheap. You just need to make sure to have the truck checked out by a good mechanic who is familiar with these engines. That's something that should be done for any vehicle. And buying an extended warranty is not a bad idea for any used vehicle that is almost out of the manufacturer's warranty.
