A small clarification here about the Ford 6.0. The actual date of engine coomonization is 1-16-06. The engines installed after that date had all the new changes in the block and cylinder heads for the upcoming 6.4. Although these changes are nice, they really do not alter the basic 06 model year engine installed before that date very much. After the introduction of the 06 model year warranty claims on the 6.0 dropped considerably to a level below 7.3 warranty claims

I'm really leaning towards the LBZ, but they are pretty hard to find around here. Every search on Kijiji yields a bunch of Rams & a TON of PSD's, but only 1 or 2 GM's, & always at a premium.
I'm not gonna get a ford. There are just always so many for sale that I'm looking for an excuse to consider them!
I just want a bone stock rig that has had proper maintenance done...

Ford sold the most, more used out there. Good deals can be had on the Fords with so many available. Get the oasis report and shop on line for extended warranty (backed by ford). I bought a very good used truck and have warranty for 3 years and 200,000 miles for less than I could have bought a comparable dodge or Chevy for. Now I have a reliable truck with the largest cab and pay load.

Good idea to find one that is stock -- no lifts, no tuners, no exhausts. IMO, these items so frequently cause problems.
I agree, it's hard to find a good, clean LBZ. I looked for a few months before I found mine.
I wouldn't talk you out of an LBZ -- I love mine -- but I think one can certainly find an excuse to get a Ford. I'll admit, I had myself talked into it (actually was looking at an '06 PSD when I found my LBZ in the back of the lot). The Ford truck is very nice -- the crew cab is very roomy, it offers features and amenities that weren't offered in other trucks, the transmission is excellent, very similar to the 5 spd Allison. Sturdier front end parts than the GM has, too -- my bro-in-law just spent $1300 replacing front suspension parts in an '07 Classic, so it's not like the other 2 brands are devoid of issues or repair needs. If you know what problems may arise in the PSD, you can take appropriate action to look for them and head them off before any major issues result (for example, clogged oil and EGR coolers seem to be responsible for the majority of the head gasket issues, which would have been easily and reasonably cheaply remedied if caught early). And look at it this way -- you can save enough on the purchase of a PSD to buy the 200k engine warranty, and probably still come out cheaper than an LBZ.
Good luck shopping!

I think 05 did not.
04.5 and up got the cat. It does not restrict at all, so it is a non-issue.

I'm not trying to be rude but just because it has a extended warranty doesn't make it reliable. Largest cab is a Dodge MC period, and what exactly is the payload amount of your Ford?

I agree. Buy what makes you happy, not what makes someone else happy, unless it's the DW of course
