wasn't there a chevy model a few years back with a 3000w inverter under the seat?
could you run your truck for a couple hours and run heavy gauge cables to charge the trailer batts, or run an inverter off the truck batteries?

get rid of the 12v batteries and opt for at least 2 6v golf cart batteries. I replaced 2 12v with the above 6v and was amazed at how much longer I had battery life

You will wonder why you did not go solar sooner.
I believe it !
This is my first toyhauler and I am excited, been out 4 times in last 6 weeks. I ran my 2 batteries dry the first night, then got 4.
Just seems like the right solution...I always have the generators for AC..thanks for the reply
Don't neglect yer genset though- exercise it monthly or it won't be there for you when you do need it.

Manke- Having seen your set up here is what I would consider-
Fabricate a small gennie compartment inside your garage with a trap door on top to start and gain access to the gennie- An insulated wood box the gennie simply sits in. This also keeps the gennie mobile as you can simply pick up the box when you want to move it. Put carpet on the outside of the wood box as it is an excellent sound muffler and will dull any vibration. When running it you simply leave the top open. The hardest part is creating an exhaust to vent out the side of the box and out the side of the garage- which would not be that hard. A hose clamp and some conduit or other metal would work perfect.
Guaranteed no one will here it running inside that box and in your garage. Also, no one can steel it and now you have power whenever and wherever you need it.
I have a built in 3000 watt inverter... and we can make coffee in the morning, watch tv... off teh batteries but I still prefer the generator. Also, having a small gennie gives you back up and is useful for other projects...

We went with 6 golf cart batteries (~$600), a Prosine 2.0 inverter ($860) and 350 watts of solar ($1000).
Its totally silent. More than enough power for what we need. It works great.

Hi me2,
How is that BZ controller working? Any idea of how much return to the battery bank from the 350 watts of solar?

I haven't run down my batteries since I installed it. I have no idea. The panels just went up the other day. Flat mounted. They aren't even permanent yet.
I based my statement on the fact that we get a ton of camping done just with precharged GCBs and the inverter. The solar will make sure that they are fully charged before we leave every weekend and anything it adds during a trip is a bonus.

Some people have a hard time understanding that "No generators during quiet time" means... wait for it... NO GENERATORS DURING QUIET TIME. There isn't a special rule for the quieter generators or the generators built into the trailer. They mean NO GENERATORS. PERIOD. The rule applies to everyone. No exceptions.

So then the 200w of solar for my 2 12v batteries should be pretty good then.......
