search solar and you'll see the setup. don't see a tripod though. 1250 watts output would be about 100 amps, not bad!

Hi,

That's fairly pricey compared to here:

low cost solar panels

I have 2 x 6V, 120 Watt solar panel and 5000 W Genny. I watch TV and use an electric coffee maker without a lot of problems. It helps that I have a good 3 stage charger.

I have (2) 2000 watt generators, but do not want to be that guy who runs them at late hours. I invested in (4) 6v and a 95 watt solar with a 300 watt sine inverter. I just ordered the inverter and solar today and am excited to be self reliant and quiet.
I hate the noisy camper, don't be "that guy"...please.

Hi smokster,

You will wonder why you did not go solar sooner.

I believe it !
This is my first toyhauler and I am excited, been out 4 times in last 6 weeks. I ran my 2 batteries dry the first night, then got 4.
Just seems like the right solution...I always have the generators for AC..thanks for the reply

and all of this is one of the reasons I will only boondock.

I do not enjoy people right next to me running generators all night, or blasting their music.

I also do not enjoy people that would rather "tell on me" than just come ask me politely to quiet down if I happen to be bothering them.

and to keep it a bit on topic, I am not sure of the specs on the 2000w generators, but on the 3000w the Yamaha seems to be about 3db quieter than the Honda. They are both super quiet though and would not bother me one bit if someone ran it all night

Well said. You echo my thoughts exactly. I have never used a generator myself, but don't mind if others respectfully do so. And would definitely hope if I ever did use one and it was bothering someody, that the person would come and let me know.

I probably don't have a valid perspective though...I camp in mostly state parks anyhow, and smaller ones at that, and only a few times a year. I am sure if I camped in larger places more often, I would see the extremes of behavior which necesitate rules to begin with.

Sorry, looks like Costco stopped carrying them. It's a 60w kit (4x15w). They now carry ones that use the super expensive panels, the kit is like $1400. Harbor Freight has a 45w kit that is really close (3x15w).
EDIT - Found at AMAZON.

Basically the panels plus a charge controller that connects to the battery. Came with a small inverter (400w) and some additional cables.

Guess I'm like the rest of the world still waiting for high efficiency panels to be affordable.

Ok, right now I have 1 12v battery and it seems to do pretty well during the day with the sat radio and Sony radio system running. I wired a 150W inverter in the TV cabinet to power an RCA L22HD41 LCD tv and my DirecTV box. Depending on my stereo usage, I can usually turn the TV on and get about an hour to two before the inverter screams low voltage. I know the TV is 50w but have no idea what the sat box is but it must be under 100w.

I am adding another 12v battery and I am sure that will do wonders for me but now I am stuck at which solar solution to go with. Costco has the 60w for $299 and then the 160w for $949. I found another place that is selling 200w with a free MPPT for $499, which sound like the way to go, or is it? I'd like to be able to go with the 60w and use the extra money to purchase a rear awning.

Any thoughts?
