Most (not all) vehicles can be modified for 4-down towing by addition of a product of RemcoTowing
Axle locks work for Front Wheel Drive
Drive Shaft Disconnects for Rear Wheel Drive
Transmission lube pumps (Which can fail) for all types.
4 down towing means you only have a few pounds of additional weight, no problem stowing the tow gear, it is easy to hook up and unhook and with a proper aux brake system on the towed car I think it's the overall best system
Dolly adds over 1,000 pounds to the tow weight, and you only have 2/4 of the wheels breaking.. This I do not like.. Even if I may end up doing it. (I hope not)
Both you don't back up
Full trailer, add another thousand pounds, I like the brakes, and you can back up.. HOWEVER. More to stow.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

As others have said, Its personal preference. We have just switched from a tow dolly to a Blue Ox tow bar. With the tow bar semi-permanently attached to the MH, it takes about 5 minutes to hookup and less time to unhitch. Much cleaner as well. With the dolly you had to hitch the dolly up and then the car, the straps etc always seemed to be dirty. The prime reason for getting rid of the dolly was the maintenance it required keeping it looking respectable, steel fenders always stone chipped and rusting.

We have both, and yes 4 down is easier, but using a dolly is not that hard to do. There are plenty of dollies out there that weigh under 500 lbs. We have for brakes the ReadyBrake system, it is easy to install and hook up and compared to others inexpensive. It works!

thanks for everyones input,I am leaning towards the tow bar. I have a Ford Ranger two wheel drive standard transmission. Do you have to always have a aux. braking system, I imagine that I will have to look at the requirement for the province. Thanks again
